H2O2 is Hydrogen Peroxide: a water molecule with an unstable oxygen atom attached. When Hyrdogen Peroxide breaks down it "fizzes" while the unstable oxygen is released. The free oxygen atom is lethal to some contams, primarily Cobweb Mold. H2O2 is used as a mild disinfectant on Casings, Cakes, and it is used to sanitize Perlite. It is employed to "clean up" some Cloning Teks. And it is used in some processes for the pasteurization of straw for some Straw Teks. H202 Kills Spores Buy the standard 3% solution Hydrogen Peroxide at the grocery/drug/discount store first aid dept. Use H2O2 full strength in a spray bottle against cobweb: it is highly effective on cased beds and cakes; properly used it does not permanently harm mycelia. H2O2 is not effective against Trich. Used Perlite can be cleaned up frequently by rinsing well in tap water then soaking for 30 minutes in a solution of one part Hydrogen Peroxide poured into nine parts Clean Water, drain before use. Hydrogen Peroxide use is "ad-lib" in most Grow Chambers, and even in some cloning Teks. Follow the TEK directions as closely as possible when H2O2 is specified. Sanitizing : Shroom Glossary |
