ok so I got some cakes that I dunked and scratched and fluffed up real nice with new growth, BUT.... all I seem to be getting is like a 30-60 pins that seem to all abort? what gives? It seemd like the entire secind flush is aborting? and ideas?

are you using double ended casing? Dunk + double end casing seems to work great for me with minimal aborts. Check Temp and humidity aswell.

Yes I've gone through my share of trials. And trials will always be there....if they're not there then you just might be dead...LOL!!
My cakes were doing this before I got the temp dialed in right in my new setup. First I thought it was lack of water....which it ended up being....but I couldn't figure it out at first because I was giving my cakes 24hr dunks and they were still doing this. Turns out the high temp was drying out my cakes before they could flush correctly. Keep your temp around 75-77 degrees and make sure they're well hydrated before you start them.
GOOD LUCK AND BE SAFE.

what a pinset!!!

for the record they are double end cased and produced a dcent first flush, but now they look something similar to that pinset except almost all aborts? I have a coolmist setup and the terrarium is lined with perlite, temp is about 70-75. What gives should I toss the cakes or what? I just don't get it, the first flush went good.

YA I have cleaned all the aborts off now, but thats the intire cake, I guess now I have to hope for a third flush that doesn't abort on me. Oh well, They were some pretty abused little cakes anyway, I have a 3 large flat cakes and 7 inner-res verm jars doing very nicely, so I'm not too worried. thx

Ya every one of those pins were abhorts. All duds. Never got a good flush out of them till they were hydrated with the propper temp.

I'm about to the point of saying screw it and post first-flush cakes are a waste of space myself...

well that was the case with mine, but they were in less than ideal conditions, for some of their poor life. I have seen gone on to inner res cakes and flat cakes. Things are looking up!
