cubies...old cakes.
i cased them in coco coir and worm poo last night over the pins to see what would happen and they just pushed right on through.
theres a couple more clusters under the coir that havent come through yet.

i think its easier outdoors.
they seem more contam resistant or the contams just stay away from them. you can start the patch whenever you want probably. theyd just wait until proper fruiting conditions. its still a bit cold here so theyre growing really slow. it might be better to wait for temps to be between 70-85 and humidity to be between 70% and100%. i saw a tek somewhere using a tarp for humidity though. cubies are pretty tolerant torwards less then perfect conditions.
for more info. do a search for outdoor growing. hope that helps.

Keep your eyes out for slugs and snails. They munched most of ours.

You can even put a ring of salt around your shroomies to keep em away.
Life can only be as good as you imagine.

That's clever - does salt effect the fungus at all? How much does it take? What about salt in the soil itself? I'd hate to do to my back yard what Rome did to Carthage...

Another good solution to slugs is to put saucers or small bowls of beer out, flush to the ground. They are attracted to the beer, go in and die.
But at least they are happy litte slugs

diatomaceous earth is about the best anti-slug/bug stuff, just place a ring around yer patch.
diatoms are tiny sea creatures with glass shells,
DE is crushed, pulverized diatoms and the tiny glass shards, while harmless to larger creatures,
will bugs & slugs to ribbons.

nice pix, btw.

Outdoor patches are so intriguing. Maybe someday when I have my own house, I'll start me up an outdoor patch.

well whats the harm in having an outdoor patch at a shared house? how could you get in trouble for some random mushrooms growing out in nature where they belong??
