I, very often, have jars of popcorn fruit from multispore inocs, when I don't get to them in time. They don't flush as good as those cakes but it works. PB

quote:substrain that will fruit invitro. Those are rare. I've found less than ten percent of the substrains I isolate will fruit invitro
maybe so without vermiculite. however my research shows the opposite, every strain i've ever tested, over 40 in all, fruited invitro on verm-rice cakes provided i gave it light early on every single one, without exception. now some did fruit better than others, which is a function of a good substrain getting selected but all did pin invitro. the only thing i cannot get to pin invitro is substrates lacking vermiculite, like popcorn or rye, i've left jars of rye\pcorn in light for months and never got a single pin while verm cakes stuck in dim light under a bed pinned in under 3 weeks.

I've gotten many strains to fruit on uncased popcorn(in the jar), but not every jar fruits. Actually most of the ones that do fruit is because I just didn't get to them in time, but most of them fruit for me. PB

Some pics right after harvest... I didn't weigh it because my scale can only handle much less (no joke) ;). I harvested 4 jars.

So what kind of popcorn do you use and what size jars? What is the tek u use for hydration and PC'ing the popcorn? Quite rare judging from what I hear other ppl. saying about the fruiting abilities of straight uncased popcorn invitro. Maybe you are doing everything just right? ! |

p.s. should have put one of those bad boys in the fridge.. I'm thinking of doing a few invitro just to have freshies at the ready. Did I mention that I love freshies? |

I did! Rodgers idea: "Or, stick the whole jar in the refrigerator, then bring out when you're 'hungry' for freshies." Still have one jar in the fridge for when I am out of fresh ones! |

sweet, a month later & you still have fresh shrooms on tap. it's just one more reason to love invitro. i've kept some as long as 6-7 weeks in the fridge and others say they went even longer. they seem to enter a state of suspended animantion, alive but dormant. then after it's picked clean just dunk, warm and let it flush again for another round. this is a great thread, btw a nice addition to the archives eventually

the reason that these can stay alive in the fridge and not rot, is that theyre still connected to the cake right? thats why picked shrooms can only stay fresh in the fridge for only a few days right? the stoop kids afraid to leave the stoop!
