fan how often and how much. are we talking do it lightly or cause a mini-hurricane inside the terrarium each time you take off the lid to fan? |

All you need to do is fan enough 2-3 times a day to completely exchange the air. C02 sits in the bottom of the chamber because it is heavier than air. Fanning removes the C02 and exchanges it with fresh air. No hurricane required. If you are seeing lots of White Fuzz, then increase your fanning. 4-6 times a days is not excessive. Shroom Glossary

You want to start fanning. I mist the sides of the rubbermaid after im done fanning to help get the humidity up. Hope im not to late! . |

if you have no pinning yet, then only fan once daily, you want a little co2 buildup, it helps trigger pinning. cakes only, casings trap co2 internally to help pinning, but cakes do not. mist the sides of terrarium when you fan. give them light, and wait... |

And if you're setting your cakes directly on the perite, don't. My harvests have increased nicely after Nan advised me against it. Using a ten gallon tank, I just pour one layer over the other, v over p, and carefully sock the water to it. The walls stay dripping, no need to mist. |

And I've always ran a six inch airstone,in the open air,for good measure. Can't say if I helps or not, probably not w/o some air movement, but it looks cool mounted via velco in my tanks! Wonder where a man could get a fan small enough for a tan gallon aquarium, like an inch and a half, that could be ran on 110? And fan whenever you can. |

I have 2 terreriums, one has cakes, the other has trays of cased birdseed, with 50/50 casings. do I only fan these once a day also until pins? do I need to mist these? they too have perlite on the bottom of chamber. thank you pj |

pj, fan the cakes once daily until pinning. casings can/should be fanned 3-5x daily. only mist the casings as needed to keep moisture optimal, stop misting directly once pinning begins. |
