For the past few days I prepared 3 lemon juice extractions servings/cups of both B. Cappi, and P. Viridis for my friend and myself, with an extra cup in case the brew was weak. Both of us fasted for 6 hours before hand, the look of the jungle juice scared both of us, and we chickened out from the Ayahuasca trip (neither of us were prepared), so we decided to go with cappi and shrooms. I drank the cappi potion with little problems, the taste wasn't so bad in my opinion, I had no bad side effects. My friend on the other hand wretched from the taste and immediately went for the peanutbutter. One cup each was ingested We both laid back and waited, 30 minutes past, I decided we might want to split the extra cup of jungle juice. I downed my half with no difficulty, but my friend couldn't keep her's down and ran to the bathroom. Strangely enough I did not get ill, when my friend came back we dropped 2.7 G's of shrooms. Five minutes later she was back in the bathroom, this repeatedly happened about once every hour, six or so times total. I was hungry and began chowin down on just about anything MAOI safe in the kitchen. Watermelon, omelets, plums, etc.. The trip was immediately and intensely visual right from the awake, with colorful geometrics everywhere. The visuals were constant and it was just the beginning, I had odd visuals of green and black reptile skin, moving shadows, I couldn't get a handle on where this trip was taking me or what is was getting at. There were moments of distress, anxiety and nausea, but it passed rather quickly, most of the time I felt rather good. I got so lost in it at times, I'm not sure when I peaked I have a feeling it was right when I started to question my fears and anxiety, I knew the answers but it seemed to sum up everything and point me in the direction I needed. I asked a lot of questions received some interesting answers that night, I don't remember a ton of it, there were times I wasn't sure if I was going to come back from the state, but after a little while went by and you let go, and faced you're fears, I really didn't want to come back. The trip wound down and just when the anxiety was getting bad something seemed to springboard me back to pensive-happyness. I felt very subject able, a lot of visuals, the vine seems to offer some insight, it's definitely a worthy trip. At first I wasn't sure about it, when it was over I wanted more, and looking back I learned some, the stress is still there, however I know exactly what I must do now. |

Very interesting. Thanks for the report. How much of the vine did you and your friend consume? What variety of caapi was it? |

Hey, Lurker, hope you're brew turns out just as well. I prepared, 3 doses, or 3 cups after being boiled down. At first I dosed one cup and after 30 minutes past we split the other whole dose. (I don't know if the additional 1/2 was necessary) The cappi I used Banisteriopsis Caapi from our sponser Bouncing Bear. At 1.5 cups of vine and 2.7 G Koh Samui, it was helpful to have a sitter/friend. |

Thanks Blodwen. I just received my raw materials from Bouncing Bear today! What I would like to know is: How much caapi did you infuse into those cups? For example, did you use 3 (dry) ounces of the vine or 30 grams? Oh, and do you know which variety of caapi you ordered? They have a few different ones at the Bear. |

I used 30 grams dry ground vine. I used Brazillian Banisteriopsis caapi, not the white....yet. I used 20 ML lemon juice, and I believe I used one cup of distilled water per 30 grams of vine. I heated and cooled the brews, but the P. Viridis I threw into the fridge to burst the leaf cell walls and then reheated the brew. |

I didn't notice any distinct peak with my last shroomhusca either. The come-up also seemed less intense than plain shrooms. Did you notice any trip augmentation by smoking cigs? How did the character of the trip differ from straight shrooms in your experience? (Message edited by leprachaun on September 24, 2003) |

Thanks for the info Blodwen. Sorry to be a pain, but, do you mean 30 grams total, or 30 grams per dose (i.e. 90 grams total)? I got the Brazilian caapi too. Is the white supposed to be super potent or something, or have you just not gotten around to it yet? |

I couldn't exactly tell you when the exact peak of the trip was, just that for a few hours it was intense and different then the beginning and end. The beginning was fairly visual, the middle was more so mental/subliminal, but there was more to it than that, . Unfortunately I'm not a nicotine fan, I poked a little smot, but no cigs, this only seemed to heighten the trip and give more anxiety. The trip was fairly visual after 30 minutes of digestion of psilo, after an hour it was more visual than any acid or shroom trip I ever took. There was something else a different feeling than shrooms, it could be used differently and you could get scared at the states it put you in, and yet it could pull you out and give you very insightful complete answers to you're current anxiety, which for me was a collection of problems in life, oddly things have changed already. Shrooms for me typically on a high dose 4-5 Grams are somewhat visual with mood enhancements, this was a roller coaster best to be done in private so you can you let loose, it seems to be a lot more challenging, this didn't seem to rate on an exact level, but it would be high level but different. The vine seems to be something to respect and visit in times of uncertainty; it's a pretty hard trip. It seemed to go through different phases, instead of peaks. "The come-up also seemed less intense than plain shrooms." Do you mean the awake? It seemed slow and incredibly visual, but fairly relaxing. I took some fun pictures at that time. I laughed through most of the trip and had some lows but it seemed to be for a purpose.

Lep can answer that white cappi question I think, I'm a new at the brew as well. 30 grams per dose. THE AMOUNT OF WATER I STATED IS INCORRECT, someone knows because I can not find it in the archives, I think I used leprachaun's formula. 3 batches - 60 ML lemon juice total on low to medium. 80-90 degrees 12 hours or so on 6-8 cool, it took about 2.5-3 days. I used both a ceramic style crockpot and to reduce a rice steamer cooker on medium level, reduced it in a few hours. (look in amvets, goodwill, their around $8) |

I have only used white and cielo caapi and both seemed to be fairly potent. By "come-up" I mean the phase between eating the shrooms and reaching the indistinct peak. There is no need to spend 3 days brewing vine. For my last shroomhuasca trip which I posted, it only took a few hours. I sawed about 2.5" off a length of cielo vine using a little plasterboard saw. Weighed about 25g. I pounded the vine with a heavy hammer on a pillowcase on a concrete surface until the bark was separated from the core. Then I pounded each piece individually to soften them up for cutting. With a heavy duty scissors, I cut up the flat vine strips into 1/4" pieces, and ground in a coffee grinder in 2 batches, 30 sec each. Put in big wide pot with 500ml purified water and 50ml distilled vinegar pre-heated to about 80-90*C. Cooked for 25 mins. Stirred well and filtered through a fine wire mesh coffee filter sitting on a sieve over a jug. Squeezed all liquid out of herbs in pot into filter, and squeezed liquid out of herbs in filter into jug. Put herbs from filter back into pot and added another 500ml cold purified water. Gave it a good stir and filtered again into the same jug. I poured the brews into the filter as quickly as I safely could to maximise sediment. I let the brew in the jug settle for 40 mins and then rapidly twisted the jug back and forth with tiny motions to get all the sediment flat on the bottom. Then I used an aquarium airpump tube to siphon off the liquid down to about 50ml. I poured this into a little jar, and added 10ml rinses from the jug to bring it up to 100ml. Finished! Ideally I would have cooked for 1 hour, and let settle for 1 hour, but I was in a rush. (Message edited by leprachaun on September 24, 2003) |

I should point out that this quick "Siphoning Tek" for caapi DOES NOT WORK FOR DMT PLANTS!!! You have to brew and reduce the regular way. It seems that the vine alkaloid crystals are big and sink to the bottom when the brew cools and settles. But DMT crystals are tiny and get suspended in the water, apparently, and the only way to concentrate them is to reduce. |

There is no need to spend 3 days brewing vine. For my last shroomhuasca trip which I posted, it only took a few hours. it bears pointing out, though, that it took you many tries to get your quick extraction to work, and most prefer a longer slow brew, myself included. i get fewer duds that way. but hey, whatever works, right ?

Lately I've been brewing under very difficult conditions and I had to come up with some quick brewing methods. Ideally I would spend longer at it. I did waste a lot of time and money researching new techniques, but it paid off in the end (sort of). I HAD TO EXPERIMENT, I am that type of person. Soon I will have the privacy to brew as much as I want, and I will be embarking on a long series of experiments to try to perfect my brewing method. I will post my findings when I think I have it all finally sorted out. Presumably there is an optimum cooking time beyond which there is no increase in potency (and possible degradation of alkaloids), and below which the potency decreases. These new experiments will be better thought out and more orderly than my previous ones which were quite chaotic. I'm not in the humour of wasting any more herbs. There are many things I want to iron out. |
