I read somewhere that ultra violet lights can be used for lighting. I was going to use an old fish tank light, but I was unable to find it. I cam across a hand-held black-light (ultra violet). It is not very strong (aprox 6" long), but I was wondering would this work for a light substitution? If not, any advice would be great. Thanks. -XfSrG |

I think that I read somewhere that UV lights break down Psilocybin and Psilocin, so it won't be any good for growing cubies. But I might be wrong. |

Another thing that seems to be a problem with using a black light is that it produced albinos after a few generations. I think I read this off of PF’s site a while back. Albino shrooms have genetic mutations and shouldn’t be propagated is what I’ve read. |

correct, don't use blacklights as they cause harmful mutations over time. use any thing but blacklights.

If they maid fluorescent bulbs that fit into a 6" light, would that be any good for growing or would it not be strong enough to actually be beneficial to initiate pinning and what not? |

Those handheld blacklights are for health inspectors to use to check for rodent piss. |

sprout, a blacklight like you get at the store won't kill bacteria, what you need for a glovebox is a much more high-powered shortwave UV light, which is not safe to expose yourself to, unlike blacklights which are toys.
