80/20/ Finch seed/Verm. Prior to adding verm, steeped for 45 min. mixed verm in, added enough distilled water until a handfull squeezed hard would barely drip. PC'd for 50 min @ 15 psi. this is what I had next morning...

Is this too dry? Shouldn't I be seeing condensation on the inside of the jar?

Can someone just take a peek and let me know their opinion of the moisture in this substrate?

I have little experience with that particular susbtrate so it's hard to tell. I don't see any verm. Wait i see a couple specs. You should be ok. The verm has prolly absorbed moisture making it look like there is none, but it will still be available to the mycelium. Besides if your doubtful, use more inoculum, like 5cc per pint or quart. That should moisten them up.

SHOULD you use verm
when using seed?

Or rather, is it a good idea to incude verm?

Somebody at the shroomery suggested that I add so brf to my seed, what a mess that made....

sometimes, with birdseed esp., the moisture level is a bit difficult to get just right. the verm. helps soak up excess water.
if your seed is done properly, though, there's really no reason to add verm.

Right hippie,

The water content does take some tweaking. I had to be sure so I opened up one of my jars and felt the Finch seed. I was just damp. Slightly cool and damp. Certainly not gooey the way many complain about with this substrate. I'll post this out in the main area in case it can help others.

Heres what I did: steeped for 45 min, added 20% verm (which I will not do again for seed), drained and rinsed a bit, added distilled water till the mixture just barely dripped when squeezed, PC'd @ 15psi for 50 min. Knocked em' up with 4.5cc honey water. They looked a bit on the dry side I could see no condensation on the inside so I opened one up and the seed felt just slightly damp. Certainly not wet, just cool and damp. Does this sound like enough moisture content to get the job done??
