I have about 9o% colonization, and have a few q"s. It has blown my pf jars by far. I am wondering if I should use verm only, since its all i have, or do i need to go on a scavenger hunt for peat also? I am gonna double case pan style. Also, would you reccomend keeping the temp up till myc shows thru casing, then drop temps??
Looking dood folks. My pf sttle jars are about 75% and havent given up hope yet, although I know I will need to dunk right after birth cause its lookin real dry.

Pam, i do not know anything about birdseed, but i wanted to comment on your 75% colonized pf style jars. Are these the same that you considered scrapping on the 9th of this month? You said you innoculated on the 18th of last month, which would make them 26 days old right now (i think you are doing fine timewise, especially if your temps aren't quite 85f. Please don't worry too much about them).
Did you see my comment on your observation of the tan color in the middle of the innoculation points? Are you sure they are actually dry, and not perhaps a bit on the wet side? What formula did you use for the substrate? Regular, max, or did you do something different with the water, perhaps mixed them on the dry side or something?
Some would recommend that jars be dunked upon birthing as a general rule, some would advise a more prudent use of dunking.
I am asking these questions not to question you or your methods, but to find out information, because you seem a bit worried about these jars, and i think you can be reassured.
And i don't know one scrap about birdseed. Someone will be along momentarily to answer those questions, I'm sure.

I used the max formula for pf jars, i am not too worried about them, gonna let em run thrie course, after reading your post. I innoc the jars of birdseed about 5 days or so ago, and they should be ready very soon. It just amazes me though, at how much faster the birdseed has been. I dont think i got enough karo tek in the pf jars when i innoc them, they are pint jars, so i guess they would take alot longer. I guess i should have put about 2cc of the myc from karo tek, but, im not too worried, they seem to be ok. temps are around 80 degrees.
thx hon. I do need to know if casing with just verm on the birdseed will be ok, tho. if i need to find peat, i am sure i can, will just take some hunting. any other comments on casing would be great too. I have a great nursery about 5 mi away, and should be able to get anything there.

you can do just fine without peat.
verm. will work.
and yes, you want to maintain the higher temps during the time it takes to grow thru the casing, then when it's ready, drop the temp and humidity and increase air exchanges to triggering pinning.

when you say you did some jars 5 days ago and they should be ready soon? What do you mean by "soon? Did you shoot the birdseed with the karo?
