I want to build a glove box with a 36x24x5-7/8 HEPA.

I was looking at the www.filtersrx.com 99.99% HEPA filter model HSP924365. It costs $120.44. I then went to the checkout to find that the shipping costs to my area (Midwest USA) are $115. The same item at www.fungiperfecti.com cost $289.95 with $16.37 shipping cost.

24x12x5-7/8 and 12x12x5-7/8 sizes of the same model also have a shipping charge of $115

For all three I get this message:
“The following table reflects UPS rates only. If we believe we can save freight cost, or if your order must be shipped LTL because of product size, we will contact you with the proper freight amount.”

And then the only option is LTL Freight Carrier.

FiltersRX is cheaper than FP for the large size HEPA, but why in the hell is the shipping so much when I live a lot closer to FiltersRX than FP and FP can ship the same item UPS?

I feel like they are trying to screw people with outrageous shipping charges.

Has anyone here had any experience with FiltersRX?

For the size filter I wanted, at Filters RX, you had to buy 2. Tey sell by the case, and if a case has 2, then thats what you have to buy.

case quantity was 2, so I put in 2 instead of one, and it doubled the shipping charges ($230), so I still didn't save anything by ordering 2 instead of 1

Some places have BS shipping charges to counter their supposedly "lower prices". I'd go with FP. They treated me great.

As it stands now $200 is about my spending limit.

12x12 FP filter is cheaper than RX shipping charges. Howevera 24x24 FP is about $245 vs $205 FX

A 12x24 hepa should be sufficiently sized. There isn't much that you cant do with it.

I made my first 20 plates with my newly built one of that size, and it appears to be working perfectly. :-)

Most of my work is going to be with filter patch bags, so I need to be able to place a PC, impulse sealer, and spawn on the table for me to work with. So I need a minimum of a 24x24.

I also have not looked into a blower yet but from the prices I have seen a the Graingers in town, they are not that expensive.

Thanks Anno, I have been through the links and most of the places did not show costs, but I went ahead and sent out some E-mails for quotes. Nice site, and thanks again.

If you find out any costs and particulary shipping costs, could you post them here? I would love to add them to my page.

I have two 24" x 12" x 6" HEPAs that I want to trade or sell. They are un-unused. I also have matching charcoal prefilters. I'm looking mostly for edible cultures. But also cultivation tools and accessories. I'd be more than happy to discuss specifics privately.

Edit - On edit I realized I only have 20 posts here at mycotopia. I post under the same name at the shroomery, and you can check my feedback (if it still exists) at the shroomery (if it ever comes back up)

Thanks for the offer Yidakiman.

I am still sending out E-mails to vendors.

It has come to my attention that many vendors offer different types of gaskets. For those of you with flow hoods (HF. and SkyyP.), do you have gaskets on your filters, if so what style?

Also is there an easy away around the gasket, like making your own?

Getting ready to send out and reply to E-mails based off Anno's list.

Any feedback is appreciated.

The gasket on the HEPA filters I use is a synthetic soft rubber gasket.

But It´s not in use, because I seal the filter border with silicone.
If you look at the above link, you will see what I mean.

Edit- Updated 12/29/03

I am working off a list that I got from your site Anno, www.fungifun.com.

Here are the replies I have gotten from the following list. Some didn’t have an E-mail, or they did not reply. None of them gave a straight figure for shipping except for FiltersRx, the majority simply asked for the quantity needed so that they could calculate a shipping price.

One thing you might think about is ebay. I bought new in box several 24x24x12 ULPA filters that cost me about $75ea shipping included that I used to build the air handling unit for my lab and I spent $200 for a pallet of 8 24x24x6 HEPA filters that I used to build my flowhood and as backups for it. All were new in box in great shape. you just have to watch and shop selectively to save a ton. I have picked up lots of lab equipment for pennies on the dollar there.
I grow everything very well, Green mold exceptionaly well.
