Just to keep you guys up to date, I've ordered some spores and expect them fairly soon. I've got my jars and am about to go out looking for some final supplies (verm, brf (whole grain will probably be easier to find here, I have a coffee grinder), a plastic storage bin, and some perlite). Think I can find all that at w-mart? Also, since I'm going to try microwave sterilization I'll be looking for some plastic lids for my half-pints (If I can't find plastic lids, can anyone think of another alternative, like sealing the jars with saran wrap or something, just looking for ideas not proven teks?) I know I'm taking some extra risks here with contamination, but I'd rather do that than raise my inconvience/stress of getting busted level. In my usually fashion, I'd also like to get a little ahead of myself and figure out how to seal a plastic storage bin to retain humidity. When I go shopping I'll try to find one that seals well already. I was thinking I could just put a layer of saran wrap over the storage bin opening, then put the lid on (maybe I've already read to do this, can't remember). Thanks Delekhan |

Order the lids off the web. ( the plastic ones ) I forget the url, but look for ball canning jar in yahoo. Most sites don't sell jars ( not worth it after shipping i suppose but most sell lids... saran works, but you should be able to find a tight sealing bin for just a few bucks. And for gods sake. Use real lids. I dunno if you have ever done this before. But follow a newbie tek to THE LETTER if it your first time. This improves your chances of success drastically. Find the brf flour at ANY health food store, if you don't see it, ask, VERY common. |

I found the lids at www.truevalue.com (also where I ordered my jars, couldn't find them local). I was hoping to not have to order anything else, hate to wait on it and pay shipping and stuff. I think I saw some lids at w-mart or somewhere local (maybe the local true-value). I'll check around first. The only reason I was thinking about grinding my own BRF is because I read somewhere that store-bought BRF can contain perservatives, which aren't good. I don't really know. No. I've never done this before. Tripped yes, grown no. Thanks for your help. Delekhan |

Simple and Cheap sealing of plastic bin... 1. Buy a tube of bathtub silicon sealant 2. Apply a little vasaline with you finger on the sealing edge of the bin (acts as release agent) 3. Apply a nice bead of sealant on sealing area of the lid 4. Snap the lid on the bin and wait an hour or so 5. Pull lid off and you have an airtight soft gasket that sticks to the lid

Thanks Roc! Sometimes the best way of doing something right is the simplest. I'm gonna use this tactic myself. If it works well enough I might just have some Myco Porn for everyone. hehe. |

Hey Delekhan, All health food stores around here have organic BRF that contains no preservatives. Look for Arrowhead Mills, that's what is widely available here. Its only ingredient is: "certified organic brown rice flower". Peace. |

i feel it's best to grind your own, it's fresh, you know what's in it, you can regulate the fineness of the grind, and i get better results with fresh ground. |

I was at wal-mart last night and went ahead and bought whole grain brown rice. I don't mind grinding my own (I don't drink coffee, only use my grinder for more sacramental things like syrian rue and pot). Since I can, as you said, reglulate the fineness of the grind, what should I be aiming for? Extra fine, fine, medium, course? My grinder tends to make short work of anything I put in it, so it'll probably end up fine no matter what I do, but I can try to coursen it up if that's valuable at all. Delekhan |

I know your concerns about the law. Like predetors waiting patiently to pounce. It wont be you utensils of growing that get you busted but other peoples mouths. Police can't read minds of see through walls(yet). But one eyewitness or a controlled buy......Like a cop once told me,"the guys who are the hardest to bust are the ones who keep changing there M O's" |

m o = modus operandi latin for mode of operation, i.e. the way one does things. |

One might mix store bought organic BRF with some chunky home ground to save a little time. |

sorry... damn, that's kinda funny... i got into an argument with a couple of my friends last night 'cause i asked them what it meant and then i kinda figured it out just from the context... i thought it was methods of operation... which is the same thing, i guess... but my buddies were trying to tell me that it was some sort of physical description.. hehe... like "gimme his MO" ... "white male, 5'8", brown hair," etc... thought it made more sense the other way... thanks man |
