Update:

I think the Tree Oyster might be a failure.  No noticeable growth so I think I might have transferred dead tissue.  I'm hesitant to ditch it yet though, as there's no sign of contam either.

Also partly because Shiitake agar from dried mushrooms made into a slurry finally showing some growth.  This is after 116 Hours (about 5 days).  Hoping it's not contam, as it looks a little on the gray side.

Shitake agar from the stem mycelium is finally showing some progress.

Here, the strongest out of the three Shiitake jars, after 116 Hours (about 5 days).

King Oyster agar are showing significant growth.  Wondering if this growth pattern (cotton ball) vs. spreading flat over the agar surface is normal for Kings.  Or does it indicate something, regardless of species?

Oysters display more tomentose growth on agar than rhizo growth in my experience.

So I made some art prints out of the giant.
IMAG2066.jpg
I used vinyl letters to make words under the print and over the painting.
IMAG2071.jpg So when I removed them I threw the parts of the letters that had spores on them into my Topsy turvy planter and covered with dirt.. Mostly coir an that buffaloam stuff. Went to water the kale in the turvy planter and came up with this...

Smells good, but the color concerns me.. Pf classics...

Today's recipe for my reference and for your consideration:

10g agar-agar

500ml h2o

5g potato flake

5g ME

approx 1g trace future foods

approx 1g activated carbon

1/2 eggshell

Pulverized the shit out of it and have it macerating in a hot water bath after adding the 500ml of boiling water to disperse nutrients

Added the AC as I'm pulling some older cultures out of the fridge and want the AC to grab any bacteria to give them a better head start.

Pics later, maybe.

Hey peeps.  Been scarce around here lately but I'm still around.  Had a close family member that went through surgery and then died first week in Sept.  We just had the funeral & burial and I was asked to give the eulogy. Between that and sleepless nights from my wife's chronic health issues & then working full time, no surprise that I've been busy.

Just been letting the petri jars chill.  I think some are trying to escape.  The infected one looks gnarly and I love it.  Pics to come.

Stay thirsty my friends.

Sorry that I keep disapearing, here's some agar-rhizo porn from a culture that mikey sent me in spore form. This is transfer two from a cluster that I cloned:

post-147940-0-59125000-1557800329.jpg

It still has plenty of sectoring, but it looks nice and clean with good radial growth, which in my experience makes it a good candidate to inoculate grain spawn with (that paired with the fact that it came from a cloned cluster).

What I typically do with a plate like this, from a clone, is put like 3 agar jars in my SAB along with some grain jars. I grab the longest rhizomorphic threads, take tiny samples with my scalpel from the very tip/s and put it to the agar for more refinement and then inoculate my grain with the rest. Your results may vary.

Oh and here's a weak first flush from aa+ that is in the early stages of senescence (hence the weak pin-set/first flush, less vigorous growth, etc), still tho, those are going to be one foot long fruits (I've been playing with these aa+ genetics for seven generations, I know what they about to do).

I should snap some pics smh.. .. got my first round of agar going. Did a transfer last night to some new agar..super excited. I have to return my PC as the locked valve keeps steaming. So I've been plugging and unplugging it to keep it at temp for a few hours...hoping. it worked so far on round 1. Fingers crossed

Cats what do you do with your growing dishes? Just wait till they start to pin, if they pin?
Then what?
Instinct says to add a 50/50 of coir and vermiculite atop the agar after its colonized completely
wisdom says wait to be told what to not do. :)

Sorry, just saw this.

They usually get cut up and inoculate grain.

Neat

I use agar for 3 main purposes.

  • Isolation of genetics/cloning desirable fruits
  • Spore germination
  • Inoculant
