It's tough to see, but congrats anyway.
I would just keep a fan going in your grow area in that temperature range. You can still grow successfully, as long as you keep the fresh air rolling.

I'm confused. They're in jars in a box. I didn't think they needed lots of fresh air til they were moved on to fruiting??
Edit-eh OK I took them out of the box. Why did I have them in a box anyway??
Jammer is referring to keeping the fresh air circulating in the room, not in the jars. You still want and will get GE for them. At those higher temps, contams will thrive much more than say upper 60's-mid 70's.
Goddamitshit. Runs and puts back in box.

What's ge?

In a box, out of a box is debatable. I have kept them out on shelves, above my refrigerator, in a box, in my closet etc and still always get growth and full colonization unless I screw up or the contam monster hits me.

I keep my colonizing agar jars in a clear plastic tote, top on, with the jar lids just barely loose and my plates colonize just fine. It's really up to you and what works best for your situation, IMO.

I know there is a lot of information and differing points of view, so I would suggest trying many different teks to see what works best for you. The techniques/procedures that work well for me might not work so well for you. There are many ways to skin a cat in this hobby.

Cats will do some silly things at times, or allow for silly things to be done!

Once I have some Shrooms I will chill and try different things. The first time I do anything new I try to stick to a plan, after that I get more experimental. I think on some level I am actually afraid the mushrooms are going to refuse to grow for me because they don't like me or think I'm worthy Hahah. I was seriously so happy to see mycelium. They don't hate me after all!!

so I have cottony white growth now in 4/5 of my jars.

I don't see any other colours emerging.

Does contam usually emerge at the same time (or before) the mycelium? (my room was a little hot and some suggested that would give contam a leg-up)

I know I'm a long way from out of the woods, but just wondered if you'd normally/often be seeing mold before or at the same time as you start seeing mycelium?

Or no such thing as normal?

Most molds will sporulate before the jar is done colonizing IME, and that's when they usually turn color. Bacteria has many signs, slimy, smelly, color, etc and can show up at any time but IME usually occur before birthing or spawning too.

I'm amazed (although it makes sense) by how  FAST the mycelium grow.  One day, a little spot.  next day, a BIG spot.  I'm waiting for two spots to meet.
