Since I seem to be growing only two stains and more PE than anything
I ventured into some experimentation.
After prior conversations about muntilayering and direct to fruiting,
I made a mini tub using 1BRF jar 1/1 with a50/50 coit/blkow
about 3 weeks ago. This tub arrangements had holes filled with
poly fill.

When I actually cracked it open today, it was already pinning
hmmm.maybe I need to redirect my spawing/casing techniques to
as to get moreFAE .

Cat,

My two other tubs which were put into fruiting conditions at the same time as this small one was put into bulk, look similar. They have pulled away from the side look completely colonized and not a pin in sight. They were put under a fan(plenty of FAE)in tubs with polyfill holes,in anaarea that gets indirect sunlight.Typical PE mind of its own.

This small tub which has substrate thickness of under 2 in,has never been exposed to light and has never been opened until I saw the pins. WTF?  I will post pics later this evening.

I have since moved the tubs back into the dark closet and will be opening some other minitubs to see if the extra FAE during colonization stimulates earlier pins.

It's just PE nonsense in my opinion.  Can't wait to see your pics.

I've seen worse, much worse. PE's are a fickle strain.

Fahtster,

the brown spots are from the substrate mix.when I first noticed them I thought they were pin heads

Cat, I agree "PE s are a fickle strain" and a mutant. But is it possible that certain environmental conditions trigger pinning in this strain

that may cause different responses in other strains?   In another older>60 fruiting day tub,it grew an object the size of an egg, fruit with no cap, after two previous flushes,

Sometimes I feel I should venture into less demanding strains, but the bang for the buck with PE is rewarding.

Meow,
The dual tubs went into darkness and reducedFAE 5 days ago
Today we have fruits, probably appeared night before last.
Hypothesis.less light, less FAE induced pinning
Ambient temp increase about 10 degrees.

IMHO,we stimulate mycelliun to fruit by manipulating environmental factors;fresh air;humidity and to some extent light and temperature.

With the PE strain,we submit the myc to a distinct set of these factors and expect it to react the same as most other strains. but in my experience it doesn't,it fruits when its ready sometimes not at all. Am I going "down the rabbit hole "to possibly think that in its mutation to a high potency, curved  slow growing, non cap opening "strain", its reactionary fruiting stimuli has changed, possibly needing a different ratio?

The traditional approach is to incubate subs for a week or two. Some growers, like me, introduce subs to fruiting conditions at spawning. Now I use filtered holes and indirect fanning, so it's not like I am manually fanning and misting from day one of spawning.

The idea is to introduce subs to lots of FAE to speed up colonization and fruiting.

I hope that helps
