Are you going to try to keep your strains pure, or are you going to leave everything 'open'?
I used to try to keep mine pure, but now I DGAS.
I'll let other people do it, and I'll just buy the seeds.
And of course I grow them for seeds...

OK, I've found that the 'open' seeds lead to some rare colours and patterns, and petal arrangements (semi-double etc)
Not much difference in inner beauty.
But I've noticed that you get a steady supply of seeds. They're worse than rabbits.

@Nsnail....I basically just throw seed out into my garden when there's a light dusting of snow....that's it....they come up, I thin them out, and voila....poppies....

I'm hooked into this one for the ride.
Got some varieties from eBay a couple years ago, could get 'em sprouted but not much after that.
I have some I'll start inside tomorrow (only variety I recall OTOH is gigantums although I have others as well) and pick up some seasoning from the store and try those for giggles.
Good to know about the edible seeds as I'm growing them for the woman's Macaw (seems birds have the best taste in seeds. ;) )
Best (and most fulfilling) vibes to all the grows this year!

I think the season has a big influence on Inner Beauty, bigger than any mixing of genes IMO.
And I just throw the seeds on some recently worked soil and wait. Not much snow here either, I wait for the nights to become chilly (April/May here) and sprinkle them around.

Namaste
My little friends will never reach the size they would like at my homeland, but I still had some beautiful, yet small, flowers last year.
So here goes nothing! Sowed 3rd of march, started to sprout 8 days later. Tempreatures here were 6 to 14°C at day and 3 to -2°C at night. It rained heavily twice and I covered the pot with baking paper for those two days.
Greetings to you Skunk, I was not around much last summer and missed your work. I remeber how enthusiastic you joined about 2 years ago (and how penetrating with questions as well :D) and this year I def. don't want to miss what you've learned and been up to !
I've send you and your plants the same love I try to share with mine, peace brother.

Where was your homeland?
Poppies grow just about anywhere...

Let's just say it's one of the countries within the fertile crescent.

Ah, right. I have heard they do indeed grow very well there.

Looks like fun :-)
Have you thought of a poly tunnel? For 'cold sensitive' plants.
You seem to be a rather dedicated gardener.
