I've been busy with other stuff so I forgot to update the log. That doesn't mean there's been no progress though!

I've got 6 trays in their spawn run now. Each holds 6L so that's 36L in total  I'm going to case them on the 1st of May and I'm very much looking forward to that. Sadly, there are still no pins to be seen on the small box I made earlier. It's been in there 10 days now so I hope to see something soon.

photo_2017-04-26_15-53-56.jpg

After finding out how much easier bags are to work with, I've now basically filled my entire house with them.  There's 4 bags of 2L of WBS each for the next shroom run (again with Cambodian) and 5 bags of 2L of oats that I nocced with Galindoi.

photo_2017-04-26_15-54-00.jpg

photo_2017-04-26_15-54-03.jpg

I also stopped using the jars for WBS and just put oats with Galindoi in them. That way I'll only have to work with 'm once every few months and I can use them as decorative pieces in the meantime  I added too much gypsum during the making of the jars so there's a bit in the bottom but I hope that won't be problem. If the jars don't colonize like I expect them to, I'll just have to re-do them.

photo_2017-04-26_15-53-48.jpg

To prepare for the future I've also got some small WBS jars working to produce LC, hopefully isolated. I used the one drop of spore solution tek so we'll see how it goes. They're AA+, B+ and Burma.

photo_2017-04-26_15-54-07.jpg

And for the finishing touch, some nice porn of a jar of WBS with Galindoi. I was gonna use it to make LC but I have plenty so now it's just a show piece.

Thanks for the update. I'm really interested in the Galindoi.

Update time:

I've cased all the trays and they're now in the greenhouse.

photo_2017-05-02_13-04-09.jpg

The jars are chugging along. They don't colonize as fast as Cubensis but I've got time.

photo_2017-05-02_13-03-52.jpg

The first tray I did still has no pins though (after 16 days), which is worrying me a bit   Because the greenhouse is pretty full, I moved it to an incubator. I also had some casing left over from the big trays so I've put a small layer on there. We'll see how it goes.

If anyone has an idea what could be going wrong here, please let me know!  :meditate:

FWIW, I've successfully grown cubes under 60f several times now. It takes patience.

I read that some mushies prefer cold. I (think) P/Cyan is one.

I could be wrong but it seems cold (within reason) sets bacteria back more than fungi.

Update:

I tried working with agar for the first time  There were still a lot of kinks in my technique but I'll get there. I tried to clone a store bought truffle on 8 plates and put some LC on another 2. Those last two aren't very useful but I thought it would be fun to see.

photo_2017-05-04_21-30-12.jpg

I also put some parts of truffle in rye jars. I'm not expecting much success but I'll give it a go seeing as there's nothing else I need them for right now. In two other jars I made some LC for future grows.

photo_2017-05-04_21-29-16.jpg

With the leftover agar from the petri dishes, I made some culture slants. They still have to be PC'ed though.

photo_2017-05-04_21-29-26.jpg

In less grow related news:

I tried to do an alcohol extraction of about 12g of dry pins. I hope I didn't mess it up because I'm now officially shroom-less  :tinfoil:

photo_2017-05-04_21-29-35.jpg

I'm still waiting for my first box to show some pins after being in the FC since the 16th of April. Getting me a little worried now  The WBS jar with Galindoi I showed previously is now in the FC with that box, with a small casing layer applied. I've also added some perlite to the incubator so I don't have to spray it as much.

An overview:

I know it's no sea of pins but they're the first ones that I made from start to finish. Finally confirmation that I'm doing stuff right  :meditate:

How long do you pasteurize?

An hour and a half after the inside reaches 60C. Why? Is there something wrong? Now you've got me worried  :tinfoil:

I'm just not used to seeing pins that far from being 100% colonized. Is that a casing or is that uncolonized substrate?

It's a casing layer. The substrate underneath was at 100% but the myc just moved into the casing. I thought partial colonization of the casing was normal?

Here's a tip, if you make extra casing put it into a bowl next to your tub, add clear wrap and some holes.

This is your indicator bowl, go ahead and put your hands in it, for an idea of hydration.

You can also get devices that you can stick into the bowl.

Nice grow by the way!

Great job man! Keep the conditions steady and watch the magic happen.................the mycelium will move into the casing for sure.......

Even more good vibes coming......that first shot looks like a nice cluster so far.........SHWEET!

I never get tired of seeing pins.............
