So I thought I would mix it up a little and look at some other comedic work.  Samantha Bee is sometimes a little crass for my taste, but I generally still enjoy her work.

I do hope the change of page doesn't stop people from hearing that interview I just posted, as I think it contains necessary understanding of our common situation.  Here's the link [https://www.youtube....v=23Dc2ZfpKmo].

I'm was not trying to hide your post, Alder.  That was just they way it worked out.   I dont like JD, and I wont watch it, but more to power to those of you that enjoy his flavor of cool-aid.  I dont discourage you, and I wont try and stop you

So for those of you that may have been robbed of seeing it due to my post rolling over the page, here you go again.

Peace

I got halfway through it before other things stole the spotlight. Definitely some interesting stuff in that video though, I would recommend watching it.

I'm actually a third of the way through my second time.  Dylan Ratigan actually got me to a much better understanding of how the 2008 crash worked.  The fact that he was on the inside of high end corporate media and walked away from it totally sets him apart.  He seems a very happy self possessed guy.  I enjoyed all of it, the light and the full bodied parts.

I have to say that my favorite moment began at 1:32:25 and runs from there.

It is encouraging to hear someone suggest something other than "we're fucked".

Ratigan points out that Risk and Opportunity are equal.

We stand just as much chance of affecting a positive change as we do of being "fucked".

In our physical relationship to the biosphere, it could well be a little late, having a firm grasp on our ankles, as it seems.  But then, I could become a respected elder in some stone age restart, being worshiped and honored for having been such a hoarder of seemingly worthless junk.  All  those readings of Worlds In Collision show me that Square One has been a repetitive theme in our feeble quests for civilized civilizations.

It's a funny thing that comedians seem to be the only independent critical thinkers left in the main stream.. They are the few that are still allowed to shine a different light on big issues, because comedy is considered an art form which is not to be taken too seriously.  That seems to be changing though, comedians are silenced left and right and to become popular they have no choice but to self-sensor on certain topics, otherwise the media will make them seem ridiculous in some way - or the only way to get attention as a critically thinking comedian is to seem ridiculous and they are digging their own graves.

This is of course prevalent in the US but it happens in the Netherlands as well, we're highlly influenced by US' social developments. More and more people love to point out in others what they shouldn't say or how they shouldn't act. Some really critical thinkers here have silenced themselves because of this development, and that it exactly what we don't need.

Most people are too shortsighted or focused on their troubles to think for themselves so they will follow the main stream consensus about what is allowed to be put out there or not. It's quite paradoxical that they will follow the media on suggestions what comedians are not to be taken seriously, because exactly those comedians serve the same function of forming thoughts for others who can't or don't dare to think critically for themselves.

I'm not sure whether and how this will end or if it was ever any different. Might be a thing of all times, and it keeps repeating in some way or another.

Almost seems like a natural part of social evolution.

Speaking of self-censorship, it almost breaks my heart to see what Colbert became after he went for the big establishment money.

Just because you dont like the message that he is sending is not enough to make it untrue, Alder.   I believe that Colbert honestly believes in the agenda that he sends.

BTW, JImmy dore's net worth is over 5X greater then the average american of his age group.  But him being a successfully aspiring  capitalist doesn't affect my opinion of him,  I've never liked him anyway.

Jimmy Dore may not be your favorite style, but who else with his outreach is getting this guy some face time?

I agreed with a number of points made.

The only thing which bugs me is this "save the planet" non-sense. It's just another boogeyman used to maintain stress and fear. We need to do a few intelligent things like dealing with plastics and reducing fossil-fuel use - sure. The planet will be just fine. Our ability to survive upon it is not guaranteed.

Instead, I wish we could focus on the possible, like taking the power back from the Neo-Nazis that have seized our global political structure. Once we get those fuckers out of the way, The People can get down to helping one another with what we really need - ready access to health care, investing in our future by devising a means by which one can receive a "free" college education, tax the corporations in proportion to their actual impact on society, reduce taxes on the individual, etc.........

I love, and agree with all your points, Myc. I see things in a very similar fashion.  The only hiccup I see in your plan is I dont know of a way to tax a corporation that doesn't trickle down somehow, someway, to end up being paid by the common consumer.

And I very much agree, mother earth will still be fine once she shucks us from her back.  Life in some form, or on some level, will adapt, and evolve.  We are not destroying the planet, we are destroying our ability to survive here.

COINTELPRO never ended.  It's funny that the imagined party of the left and their mouthpiece, MSDNC, must now get scooped by Fox News.

When I went to see Jimmy Dore's live show in Portland a year and a half ago, I wore my Nader/LaDuke 2000 tee shirt over my Kucinich 2004 tee shirt and would pull the one up to show off the other, so everyone would know that Duh-bya was my fault in 2000, and Kerry wasn't my fault in 2004.

It seems that Joe Rogan has given Sanders a lukewarm endorsement, which was enough for the Sanders campaign to run with it but then some Sanders supporters got all bent out of shape about Sanders endorsing Rogan's endorsement because Rogan expressed views they didn't like. Twits are Twittering all over the place about it today.

Idiocy like that is why Trump will be elected for another term.

I don't say "reelected" since he only won thanks to the Electoral College, which is anti-democratic and shouldn't count but somehow still does. So technically-speaking he was never "elected" in the sense that's implied by having a popular vote (i.e., that We the Peasants are actually determining our next President and not the EC delegates).

...which is anti-democratic...

"Democracy means simply the bludgeoning of the people by the people for the people" -Oscar Wilde

I was gonna choose one from Mencken but...well, here's twelve:

  1. Every election is a sort of advance auction sale of stolen goods.
  2. A good politician is quite as unthinkable as an honest burglar.
  3. A politician is an animal which can sit on a fence and yet keep both ears to the ground.
  4. Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance.
  5. Democracy is also a form of worship. It is the worship of jackals by jackasses.
  6. Democracy is the art and science of running the circus from the monkey cage.
  7. Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard.
  8. Every decent man is ashamed of the government he lives under.
  9. If a politician found he had cannibals among his constituents, he would promise them missionaries for dinner.
  10. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.
  11. The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.
  12. As democracy is perfected, the office of the president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move toward a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Yeah, I'm open to any practical alternatives. Getting rid of the EC would at least be a start.

And I was commenting more about how people act against their own best interests by failing to see the bigger picture, which certainly won't help change anything for the better.
