Well.......Arathu is moving into growing mushrooms for food, medicine, and hopefully eventually the market place......

I intend to document my efforts and growth in this direction here in this new thread: (as a side note I want to get away from just using the CWGL as a general purpose thread which I've been doing.........)

So I'm very likely going to get into some engineering of equipment and facilities as I progress and I'm also very likely going to open source those designs and efforts...............HERE with my brothers and sisters

Anyone interested is welcome to come along this next phase of my journey...........maybe it will turn into something larger than what it starts out as.....IDK......I do know that the CWGL went way the hell beyond what I ever thought it would......

So...here we go............but....as usual...........I gotta go out to work the graveyard shift.............

Here's a list of cultures that I have been gifted from a very generous member here at Topia......what a great place this is.

So I'm starting this journey with these species and we'll see how it goes from there.

Knowing myself pretty well, I don't tend to "half ass" things, and barring catastrophic events I can only see this getting completely out of control...

So in no particular order we have:

beechmushroom.jpg

Beech Mushroom hypsizygus tessellatus or buna shimeji, hypsizygus marmoreus

elmoyster.jpg

Elm Oyster hypsizygus ulmarius

grifolafrondosa.jpg

Maitake grifola frondosa

lionsmane.jpg

Lions Mane hericium erinaceus

shiitake.jpg

Shiitake lentinula edodes

reishi.jpg

Reishi ganoderma lucidum, tsugae

Things getting started and this years goals:

  1. Frame and finish my lab interior
  2. New flow hood
  3. Design and fabricate modular 55 gallon barrel/drum steam sterilizer
  4. Design and fabricate greenhouse style fruiting chamber (initial size will probably be 10'd x 8'w x 7'h)
  5. Start sourcing and subsequent experiments with locally sourced substrates (wood chips and saw dusts from local tree trimmers and sawmills and whatever else works)

If I get half of this done with my current schedule I'll be amazed...........and I forgot to mention at least grow some of these and EAT them.......this year..........

This is going to be a fun adventure...........

l little "conversation" I just had with a "human" at Scotts about Naturescapes.............

You are now chatting with 'Deidra'

Deidra: Hello, how may I help you today?

Arathu: Hello Deidra....can you tell me what wood specie(s) in particular, is/are used in Naturscapes mulch or is it a mix of various types?

Deidra: I will be happy to assist you today.

Deidra: Please allow me one moment.

Deidra: Do you have the product with you to get the barcode?

Arathu: Additionally is this product fully organic? In other words how would I know that it doesn't contain chemical/pesticide residues without going into the laboratory?

Arathu: It's outside hold on a moment..........

Deidra: Okay

Arathu: 0 32247 86594 4 Triple Shred Brown Mulch

Deidra: Thank you

Deidra: One moment.

Arathu: Cool

Deidra: the wood used in our colored mulches is natural forest products that are by-products of the timber industry.

Arathu: So likely a mix of species then?

Arathu: I'd imagine depending upon what they were working on at the time........

Deidra: We do not have any species in our mulch just wood.

Arathu: OK thanks

Deidra: You are welcome. Please contact us at anytime!

Chat session has been terminated by the site operator.

Hahahahahahaha.............shut up and take your pills consumer peasant indentured servant worker slob.....................how dare you question the corporation?

Aren't you on the midnight shift for your overlords? Why are you not in optimal rest status? Your performance and efficiency will suffer as a result of ........ gasp......THINKING........

I'm hoping this was a machine and not a human with a college degree.................

Got new surplus toys for cheap...........

  • A couple of Asco solenoid valves (one incomplete)
  • A proportional regulator unit
  • An adjustable pressure switch

These will come in handy as I make my first fruiting greenhouse create a nice optimum environment for mushroom growth........

Since I have to work and spend significant time away from my passions then I'll have to leave a surrogate control in my absence......

I Imagine if I can manage to get a solar/wind power system in place along with rainwater harvest and storage.......

I'll be making natural organic mushrooms, dirt, and green life.........(at least I'll be helping to do so)

We have the technology!

More surplus from the dumpsters of industrial America.........brand new and I think I can get more.......

I've decided to "frame" my greenhouse with 1-1/2" PVC attached to the old swing set/playground.... and close in the play area for an incubation room.

Like the mushrooms themselves I will attempt this with as much recycling and re-purposing as absolutely possible.......

IMHO....NICE JUNK........hahahaha

Fungi make treasure from death...........I should hope to learn half of what they know and steer my values accordingly................... :meditate:

The old guy, older than me anyway, that caught me in the dumpster (yes I'm a dumpster diver too)......laughed and told me there would probably be more........

Like I said this is probably going to get completely out of hand........... @ The Dirtmaker Farm...................

Those are nice solenoid valves they can be used with a timing relay to control a misting system if they are 100psi NC valves.
Nice find, the numatic regular is quite the find too. There wasn't a positioner at the bottom of that dumpster was there?

I wish......hahahahaha.................I have also acquired a nice collection of serial DAQ modules for voltage 0->5 and 0->10 also frequency inputs..........there is a ton than can be done from "wastes"

They are indeed high pressure liquid tight solenoid valves and that application came immediately to mind............... Needles we think very much alike............scary...........
