How could I be so lucky to be able to follow in his words “the old mushroom wizard heading up the trail to destinations unknown”..... What a awesome day at Arathu’s acre, we carried back our share of mothers medicine. As always a great opportunity to talk Mycology, explore and discover. Thank you again for the hospitality....

Out just far enough that you never know what you'll run into.....CIRCLES
Not real sure what these are yet....but there's a whole shitload of them out there....
This is a special tree right here...
And that's a nice hen right there....
Cool to look at but NOT TO EAT.....Jack-o-Lanterns I do believe...they're supposed to glow in the dark if I'm not mistaken..
It rained enough to make the fungi fruit pretty well this fall...

Arathu:
Pick one and take a photo of the whole thing; stem included looks an awful lot like armillaria mellea (honey mushroom) which is a parasitic root rot, (but awfully delicious IMO), but need furthur photos in order to ID. Is it growing off the root? More photos of the environment too.
Break the stem apart, pithy inside? as in, can you peel away the outermost layer of stem and left with long, connected stringy bits in the middle?

Good read, nice grows!! Cool Toys.
Shiitake logs are on my to do list. Also acquiring an AA. My current pressure cooker is a cheap one, only holds 4 pint jars at a time. It is also only capable of 12psi. It get's the job done though.

Three different logs starting to push mushrooms out now....
This first one is the early bird, those pins got frozen and aborted....
Still it'll be fine and I'll be starting to harvest, and of course EAT, very shortly....
I seriously suggest plugging logs if you have the place to do it....
Bonus fruiting from this old log....
Second maple starting to pin up and push out fruits too....
This is, hopefully, a Lions Mane log, and hopefully it will fruit....
Grown in a bag until the spawn itself disappeared.....it looked like it penetrated into the log...
Bagged and buried....

We had frost again this morning.......makes the mushrooms tough....
There better not be a pandemic rush buying, shelf emptying, cargo ship in the canal sideways, loss on butter......
Anytime soon.......Damn it......Least not while my shiitake are popping.....
Maple logs go first again this year too......hopefully the oak logs pin just after it starts staying warm...
Yummy!
