Man these two maple logs of shiitake have popped super early each year so far......

 

Might have to take them in to keep these first ones from freezing...

 

If you're cold......they're cold...

 

 

 

 

The oaks will wait until steady warmth....

 

Pretty cool when they fruit staggered...I can taste them already..

Once I've accepted that they get cold......it's up to ME to do something about it...

 

So I did.....the first flush this year WILL NOT FREEZE....

 

 

But they will likely make it into the skillet and probably spaghetti sauce too

Split the bark....there's more on the other side....and I've found several new sources of logs....

 

This IS going to get really silly....

 

Super tasty silly in fact....I need to build a good incubator and get some heat in my lab....

 

SPRING IS SPRUNG.....even though it's snowing right now....

 

I know, I know, I shouldn't have moved them myself (trust me my back is bitching at me)

I know they are tasty on hwfp, but I hear they are even better on real Logs.  One of these days I'm going to find out.  Huge fan of Bags, but I did 4 CotW logs, and it's a really cool process and I can see me becoming addicted to logs without a Doubt.  Really Diggin' this photo man, I might have to throw it up for POTM.

I am about to embark on my most challenging attempt yet.....hopefully these will result in a great flood of multiplication...

 

Right on the acre....I will not stop until I succeed in growing all of my favorites...(which means not as long as I am able)

 

The three above are gifts for a friend that has never tried them....the soon to be slurry fruits are not photogenic at all...

 

Plus I'm experimenting....

Gorgeous, looks like a beautiful yellow morel.  Good luck with the slurry, Morels are my favorite as well and one day I will get them to grow.     Saving my Wood ash for a shot at them SOON.

The three of these were growing within 10 feet of each other....unfortunately for me someone else adopted my honey hole and has raped it each year since.....

 

They're likely watching me on a trail cam or two ( I know for a fact they are) and the asswipe(s) took ALL of them before they even grew...silly fools

 

May the dwarves and trolls have serious gastrointestinal fuckery with them....

 

Hence the desire to simply do away with public hunting.....and invite them to the acre..

@Arathu, trail cams go missing and get misplaced ALL the time.      And to harvest them ALL like a greedy gremlin too... and EARLY.  Damn, that's a SUPER FAIL Fall on your Face situation.

As I stood there looking at all the little cut off stems nine deer walked right up to me, unafraid, curious.......I won't go back there for mushrooms now....

 

The dwarves are probably pissed.....I'll stop down and offer some silver, say a prayer, and seek guidance to a new patch....away from the riff-raff......

 

Mother doesn't give a shit if you grasp the ways or what you believe......I'm not telling anyone what to think or do.....
 

My garden beds, seven of them, are all tilled as of noon today. My grapes are shooting, oyster spawn will be running soon.....more logs as soon as the ground is dry enough to go get them....

The donor got it's arse kicked in a wicked thunderstorm last night...

 

 

 

One of the real reasons mushrooms like thunderstorms.....and Dirtmakers...

 

Yeah so I now have over 2 dozen fresh maple logs of significant size....quite a few for plugging and several for totem poles...

 

It's going get stupid here...a few of these I shouldn't have move by myself.....but I'm by myself so the hell with it...

Lots of neighbors had fallen maples. Figured it's wrong time of year to be collecting wood for plugs. My recent plugs haven't done anything. Tried deep soaking 2-3x now, cherry wood and linden just may not work.

 

Jealous of all that shade you naturally have.

Just FYI.....the two Shiitake logs posted above fruiting this spring are also from late spring storm damaged maple......

So at least here where I am, while not the :"optimal" time for gathering, they certainly worked.....one of these years (perhaps later this year even) I'll gather more in autumn (during dormancy)

Then again I won't even hesitate to soak a log in a fertilizer bath.....but that's just me.....^^^^ certainly NOT the time to plan for cutting logs....but I'm not passing them up either..

I need to get off my arse and get some plug spawn going......but in the mean time I'll very likely order some commercial plugs of various species ready to go......

My master plan to invade the world, remove all tyrants, mandate the full distributed return to soil and food production......and then leave everyone ALONE to thrive in their own genius.....is moving forward....

Today I have to add a new breaker and dedicated circuit for the Corning hotplate magnetic stirrer in my lab because that baby draws SERIOUS current all by itself....(blower motor and HP/MS cannot share the same circuit)...

 

And I have the itch to fiddle with things...as usual.....plus I'm off this week...

 

I added a stainless steel baffle in the plenum for my hood (which now very evenly pressurizes and flows through the filter with much more balance)  and I made side shields too.

 

For the type of blower I have a VARIAC allows me to control the blower speed precisely......

 

So it is time to work on the dungeon some more...and revive some H2O suspended cultures, touch more spores to agar, and see what else wants to join us at the acre....

 

Those logs are not going to plug themselves..... (but something else could easily invade them)
