Well shit.  Its been a while since I've seen a strain take off like this.  I also 'hit the books' again after i reordered this time and have spent over a week looking over old videos, reading threads and figuring out how i can fuck up less.

I also discovered from research that these fuckers will grow on plain STRAW!  I thought no fucking way right.  But I put them in a the same basic set up I'd use to grow oysters, put them in my warm room and sure as shit it looks like the straw basket is colonizing too.  I am really amazed.

Although penis envy isn't my favorite strain its hard not to love a strain that grows this well.

I'll post pics when I start to get some fruits in a week or so though.

Hoping this takes.  Its a basket loaded with penis envy spawn on a straw and manure substrate.  Probably weighs 5 pounds at least.

The strength of this spawn is really amazing.  It is even climbing up the walls of its plastic container and trying to dig in with the loose pellets on it.

It seems to be colonizing the straw fairly well.

These photos are from a pink oyster grow I started at roughly the same time.

I didn't have enough spawn to fill up one of the larger bins I was working with so I just filled in the bottom and did a fifty fifty spawn compost mix.  After it fully colonized I came back and put a sterilized layer of the same mix on top and sure enough it is growing through that and looks to be on its way to fully colonizing that as well.

This may be an option for someone working with limited spawn.  From my earlier experiments with inoculating compost laced with grain via LC I'm hoping this produces a healthier more long lasting substrate.  It works best with the penis envy as its so hardy but I'm doing it also with Amazon and B+.  The B+ bin had some problems but the dirt I used had been sitting a while and may have itself been contaminated.  I scraped it off and the mycelium underneath looks healthy.

The PE started to fruit.  I'm so happy.  I was hoping for a flush across the entire surface but it may come on later as this is just starting.  Nice fat sized fruits forming.  Wondering how big I should let it get before I cut it.

Let em grow until just as they start tearing the veil is what I've always read.  They are at maximum quantity/quality of actives at that point.

I'm definitely aware of that.  For this grow at least to start I'm going for size just to shock some people.  Later on I go back to what I usually do which is like you said just when the veil breaks.

I think these PE will yield about twice what I'm used to getting for area.  Of course I also have been going back to watching every video I can find on youtube and also reading old threads.  Making a lot better spawn now and better soil too.

It takes a while longer to get them to fruit but I'd say its worth it.

I did a small microdose yesterday and had a very different experience than I did in the past.  Very clean uplifting high.

PE's keep growing after the veil breaks IME, I'd bet dollars to donuts that those would have doubled or tripled in size if left a couple more days.

Please don't go all Freud on me but many of my most profound and amazing trips were with that strain, though I've tried many other cubensis.

Mexicana though is like being visited by the virgin mary.  And I'm not even catholic.

Some of the bins seem very slow to fruit.  A couple are at 3 weeks.  One is almost at four.

Wondering how often I should be doing FAE.  See so many conflicting answers in old threads.  I've been taking out my tubs and fanning them in the morning and at night.  Twice a day.  Also have nail sized holes burned in them covered with bandage tape.  Mostly on the top.

Some guides say to let the CO2 build up but I don't wanna risk them stalling out either.

Some of the bins are showing this pin like white growths.  Pretty sure its some sort of contam but not sure what to do with it.  I really don't want to toss the whole bin out.

Like I said some of the bins seem like they are gonna give me some grief.

These fat little guys came out of an old chicken container from walmart which probably wasn't even cleaned all that well.

I'll tell you what.  The longer I do this shit the less of an expert I feel that I am.

Chicken container is still fruiting too.  Will be at least a half ounce if not an ounce out of it dry weight.
