Kombucha in the Shadows
Posted 27 May 2017 - 09:49 PM
Finally got my schedule down to where I felt like I had time to devote to kombucha brewing and had the offer of a scoby.
Went to goodwill and found a glass vessel large enough to work with (for now) and have finished the first brewing and am now doing a second ferment with fruit juices. (1 green goodness and mango madness in the other)
Here's pics of the first brew and transfer and restart.
Next will be splitting the scoby for backup in the scoby hotel.

Been nice having all the kombuhca I could ask for.
was very nice of our friend to share his with us but much more satisfying being self sufficient.
Have a couple of extra scobeys in the hotel in the fridge just in case anything goes wrong.
Will post a few new pics shortly.

My pu erh arrived today :-)
I've been enjoying this kind of tea ever since I first saw it at the, now moved, tea shop about 15yrs ago.
With a name like pu erh, one has to give it a whirl ;-)
Hoping it will make good kombucha as well.
Have something that maybe most kombuchas won't have in their flavor profile.

Here it is. Comes in various sizes and in individually wrapped little cones that are enough for one lot.
Usually get a few steepings as it is pretty strong.
First time we got a little pie or whatever but it comes pretty cheap thusly and will be going thru it quicker now that I have more and will use it in the kombucha.
