I am doing some AA+ cakes. they have been in the FC for going on 14 days and are just now starting to show tiny Primordia.The primordia are only showing on a few of the 8 cakes.

I only ask this question because I have done cambos and AT in the past and if anything they seemed like fast fruiters. I had full boomers in a matter of weeks. I have checked and rechecked the environs and everything should be pretty close to optimal for fruiting. Heres what I am doing, if anything stands out as a mistake or something I should or shouldn't be doing..please let me know.

 

TEk:PF TEK

Super cake formula containing BRF, verm, bee pollen, corn meal, powdered gypsum, Flax seed.

Casing: DEC

Strain: AA+(multi spore)

 

FC conditions:

Temps: 70-76ish

Humidity:95%

Light given by a 2 tube compact floro at 12 hours on/off cycle, light hangs about 2 foot above the FC.

 

I keep the casing moist as needed and fan about 3 times a day for about 30 seconds or so..

 

Some facts:

-colonization times seemed really slow..I nocced the jars up on August 20th , and didn't birth until about around 20th of Sept. I allowed an extra week in the jars to assure full colonization.

-Primordia growth seems slow

 

 included some pics for you to check out and tell me if these look like health primordia.

 

 

I am just curious to hear from those who have done AA+ or done a similar super cake tek ..Was it slow going?

I played around with some AA+ cakes recently and they were on the slower side. Not sure how long. But I kept thinking it was slow colonizing and fruiting.
Cake could possibly be dry and need a dunk but if primordia are forming then wait it out a bit if nothing happens re dunk and double end case and try again.

I enjoyed the fresh fruits

I've got six jars each of Golden Teacher, Gulf Coast, and AA+. All noced at the same time. My GT jars are by far the fastest to colonize and are almost ready to birth. The GC jars are lagging a bit behind the GTs but doing well so far.

The AA+ jars are lagging big time and only seem to be about 50%-60% colonized.

I'm a little worried about my birthing and fruiting schedule for all of these babies. I'm scheduled to be out of town from the Oct 29 thru Nov 14. I might be able to get a couple flushes from my GTs before I leave town, but I'm afraid I'm going to be looking at 12 invitro jars by the time I get back! Waaahhhh!!!

I didn't notice aa+ to be any different than other cubes. Cambos are fast IME. I've grown both extensively in the past.

AT is probably the fastest pinning strain that I have grown, and Cambodian is probably the fastest colonizer that I have grown.

So looking at them as if they are horses racing; Cambodian beats AT out of the gate, but AT catches up in the home stretch.

 

Back to original question; IME with AA+ its average to just slightly slower than average when it comes to fruiting speed.

IME growing Cubensis 75% of the varieties' differences are very subtle. There are only a few with characteristics that stand out. AA+ being all white is only thing that stand outs to me about AA+. Although, TBH I don't recall every eating any of the AA+ that I have grown. I try not to eat mushrooms too often, because my mom told me that make you gay.

Well I finally got some fruits going. 1 cake seems to be taking off I have one that hasn't even pinned yet.I'm scratching my head on that one.

 

I wonder if the Super cake Formula I am using made the process a little slower. seems like a lot of food to eat to me , but I am not mycelium so how would I know. I was wondering if it takes longer to get to the center of a tootsie pop when Supercake ingredients are used..

 

Anyway I know its only cake porn but I am happy to finally see some activity. After a 5 year break I guess you forget the patience part.

Of coarse your mom picked the mushrooms instead of the coke to blame it on. Older generations have a hard time accepting that you were just born with the gene. :)

I grow AA+ on bulk regularly.  On a coir or coir/dung sub, AA+ colonizes in about 10-14 days.  Fruiting commences about a week later, and I normally harvest a flush in about a month from spawning.

 

The fruits are very strong, and everybody I knows loves the strain.  It is personally my favorite cube (thanks, Cat!).

 

I did run the strain on cakes a time or two and did not care much for my results.  I would have to do it more to tell you that it performs poorly on cakes, but I can say I love the results on bulk subs.

 

I would not call it slow at all, though.

Interesting MLB, that you get different results depending on if it's done on cakes or bulk. I am about to try bulk for the first time. I was thinking of going with some African Transkie next which is personally my favorite strain, but I may also just give the AA+ another go in bulk. I have 8 more cakes fully colonized right now and gotta figure out what I am going to do with them. I was thinking about crumbling them up and mixing them with some substrate and doing a bulk grow. Food for thought.

Also based on the fruit I ate on Sunday I would have to concur on AA+ being plenty potent enough.
