Are there any folks here that play a instrument? I myself am a guitar player, I've been playing a long time, I have some stuff recorded that was sold overseas. Here's a tune that wasn't released, 3 people, 1 take, improv.

nice, that sounds pretty good. I just picked up the hobby, got a bass and learning how to play. I played a lil guitar back in the day but ever practiced enough and eventually sold all me gear.. I also have a guitar coming within the next week, got a good deal on a  used one. I don't have anything to share but i plan on practicing daily and hopefully soon i can hold a beat

Is that you in drop D or on the mandolin?  Fun riff on both ends  :)

Baphom3t - I was totally waiting on you guys to break into "Inna Gadda da Vida" there ... your drummer is having a field day on those toms, sorta sounds like The Doors on acid, on acid.  :)

As for me, I'm good enough to embarrass myself at a social gathering on pretty much any instrument - I generally blame ethanol, but lack of focus and discipline is the true culprit ... I just can't pick one; that said, I started on guitar back when I was a kid, so I guess that's my least embarrassing thing, although I've got some truly terrible covers / remakes of songs that will make you never hear the original the same ... ever ("Dude, you fucking RUINED that song for me, asshat!) ... maybe not a compliment per se, but at least I'm making a difference?

:)

I am a fanatical musician. I play stringed things. My go to instrument is a 12 string guitar, but also play 6 string and 3 string and mandolin and bass. I have practiced every day for the last 7-8 years, but my skill level does not reflect that as it has mostly been unstructured and self taught and youtube lessons. I have a few things on Facebook, but nothing anywhere without my face in it. I am appalled how bad my recordings are as I play pretty well, but as soon as that damn red light comes on my timing and inflection go right to hell for some reason. I am comfortable enough to play in a group setting with friends and do fine, but as soon as the camera or recorder comes up I start over thinking it and screw it up and damned if I can work that issue out.

Wharfrat you are lucky I didn't subject you to music the night I came over as I had my 12 string in the car lol. I rarely go anywhere without it, but if I am enjoying a good conversation it doesn't seem right to derail that by trying to play music for people. I would rather enjoy the good conversation as that is a rare thing for me nowadays. If you ever want to get together some weekend I would be glad to come over and show you some good stuff to get you started. Learn G, C, and D and you got a handle on about 6,000 good songs brother. :)

I live for playing nowadays and it has given me something to do with myself besides be the pot guy as I was most of my life. When I quit growing pot I had to latch on to something to identify with I guess. Anyhow you all keep on playing! It is the best gift I ever gave to myself to pick it back up and get serious about it.

Peace...

Me on guitar.  Those were fun times!  I had my recording station set up in my living room and my buddy and I spent a lot of time jamming.  We actually finished a few songs, too, but they've been posted on social media.

The SG is a good guitar, and of the Gibson family, I'd say it's the one to NOT pay full Gibson price for ... the Epiphones I've played have been pretty much sound-identical to the rich boy versions, and they look cool as hell to boot.  The "real" Gibsons probably have some American Marlboro ashes stuck behind the frets and a bit more spit & polish, but the Epiphone is (again, in my opinion) a superior subset than Fender's "Squier" brand (the spelling pisses me off as much as anything else - did fucking Bill & Ted name this offshoot during their epic adventure?) ....

Music has kept me closer to sanity for some time now - part of my New Year's Devolution is to get back to playing more of whatever whenever I can, as sanity is harder to find as the years pass   :)

Oh yeah Epiphones are definitely solid.  I would love to get my hands on an SG!  Good pick.

Nice to see some participation in this thread.
Sidestreet........yes, I like the tune you posted, that's some wholesome goodness.
I could come up with all kinds of crazy for that jam, was it a tune y'all did improv or was it wrote out?
90 % of what I do is improv.

Here's a tune I wrote called Taking the Time.....this recording was done live at a show we did where I lived at at the time.
There's a lot of deep meaning to this song for me as it has to do with my dad and mom as well as a friend during the time it was wrote.
Sorry for my shitty voice because I was the singer / lead guitar player in this band.
I hope y'all enjoy.

feeling really good about my progress, practicing daily, but these guitar strings are riping up my fingertips. What do you guys think of the pink super slinky's? they say they bend easy for for noobs like me. Would you recommend them or a diff brand/type?

maybe you are pressing strings to hard? if this is an electric guitar I guess a gentle touch is enough, if pressed on wright spot... not on the frets, but just behind it, i guess.

Wharf........
How long you been playing ? It takes time to build calluses on your fingertips to where it doesn't hurt as bad.
I've been playing for quite some time and even now my fingertips will still be tender after a 4 hour playing session.

I have always used D'Addario......if you are using a acoustic you'll maybe want to get acoustic strings, but I'm a rebel and use electric strings on my acoustic, what gauge of strings are you using? I use .010–046, in other words I use 10 gauge....... but really, it all comes down to what makes the guitar you have sound good.

i been playing the bass for the last couple months, it wasn't as bad as the guitar strings that i have only played a few days, so yes no calluses. I know it will get better. I bought this guitar used with used strings that look old, so I am replacing them anyway, was just deciding on a decent string. I believe these are 10, the super slinky's are a bit skinnier at .009-.042 i believe. I was reading about them and they were recommended.

Aur, yes i wish i was pressing to hard, only press hard enough to not get fret buzz.
