I want to die in my sleep like my dear old grandmother, not screaming in terror like the passengers in her car.

'When I die, I want to die like my grandfather who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car.' - Will Rogers

Edit: sorry for the copy cat Alder, I swear I didn't see your post the fist time I looked at the thread.

Sidestreet nailed it.

Leaving on a dream sounds good for a life that is itself a dream.

I would quite like to plan the whole thing.
Like the yogis in Tibet. To know it was time. To say what i had to say and get it done with grace.
Id like a good death when im old and satisfied. Id like to feel id wrung the fuck out of life and im ready for the next one. And so far its going well. Ive packed 3 lifetimes into 3 decades ive had experiences that many people wont have in 100 years. Ill take them. Even the nastiest and most bizzare. They are mine. But for the next few id take some contentment and love. Before its time to recycle. .

I did my slight modification to that version of the old joke from the version I heard delivered by Garrison Keillor on A Prairie Home Companion (without attribution to Mr. Will Rogers).

I too chose the last item in the poll, feeling the choices to be limiting the possibilities.

I would quite like to plan the whole thing.

I have no desire to plan this at all.  There are schools of thought about the subject that say we have a plan before we even become embodied hereabouts.

But for the next few [years] id take some contentment and love. Before its time to recycle. .

No time like the present.  'T'was ever thus, eh?

While I have packed away (as it would seem) a shit ton of years of the craziest and most bizarre over 7+ decades, I feel I needn't have waited to partake of the love and contentment, which may well be two sides of the same coin.     Submit now and avoid the rush.    Perhaps all the recyclables are eventually bound for some virtual dump, and with true contentment, we step off the karmic conveyor belt, if what we truly are could step.   It's all love.   I would let what can end, end, and not worry in the slightest about what can only stay.

I had a list somewhere of Will Rogers quotes (he had some good ones), and I always remember that one 'cuz I liked it.  Though I wouldn't be surprised if someone had said it before in some form or another, and he repeated in his own manner.

Another quote of his I like is...

'There are three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves.'

I built an electric once to keep my great dane in the yard. My couzin came over and said it couldn't possibly work because girls do not know how to build shit like that. I sat on the front porch smoking my cigarette  and told him to grab the wire. Funniest shit ever when it knocked him on his ass. I was then dubbed the bitch from that day on.

I don't know if its a good time to admit that at one time in my life I was a certified (like I went to school, and passed a test, and everything) amusement ride (including roller coasters) inspector .....

I have no fear of dying, but no desire to leave now or select the means of my expiration date. I also have no desire to know the time or way. It will be as it will.

My Father simply decided to go when he was tired of living. He knew and told me to get a good night sleep because tomorrow would be a busy day.

He passed during the night, quietly.

I truly believe when it is time, and I am ready to let go, it will not take a planned method or any means of intentional ending. When you let go of all the strands, you are freed to move on.

I cannot rule out accidents of any type, but I do not control that so to me it is pointless to spend any energy fearing that.
