ED: Hospital autoclaves also use superheated steam, and often at 30(+) psi. But they cost a lot, both to buy and to run...

Yes, it would be very complex to try and install and run a hospital autoclave. 30+ PSI - makes sense if you want to get something else to 20 PSI steam then you better have a bit of extra headroom to get there.

Your design really appeals to me though because I have solar panels on the roof and elecricity is free during the day. The real problem is I doubt I have the skills for it.

Look up "evacuated tube heat pipe solar technology". You can get some serious heat and efficiency from a roof installation.

I might add, hospitals also have some seriously sensational pressure cookers in their kitchens. They need them for cooking for immunocomprimised (transplant/chemotherapy/HIV) people... and of course for pumping out thousands of meals 3 times a day.

@sandman already has the DIY industrial size pc figured out but will allow him to disclose the details if he chooses but this is pretty bad ads right here for bulk sterilization......

That reminds me of the huge pressure cookers that the fish industry uses to process tons of tuna at time.

That funny that you mention that. You can pick one of those up for about 5k from China but it probably cost another 10k at least to get it here. I was shocked when i seen how cheap they were, at least the ones i seen.

I wonder if they still smell like fish when you take them out of the box.

Update. I flipped the outlet to the top and the regulator to the side so i could use the full capacity of the water heater and its easier to fill. I did have to close the regulator slightly because at 1 or 2 psi water came out while i was filling it. da6aafe0c24c936d85eaf046dd11fe2d.jpga92f43fcc2cd08b8701cc958e317d050.jpg
