I didn't bother to sterilize the wood chips I mixed with the spawn in the barrel. I figured sterilizing it would just make it easier to be contaminated by trichoderma. Broke apart the spawn with my hands to line the bottom of the barrel, and dropped about  6" of chips over it; then poured some water on it. I'll give it a couple weeks, and then check if it's doing well. Then ill fill in the rest.

Hi everybody;

My Azure/Cyan half barrel is coming along amazingly; and yes I mixed them together, so well see what happens. :P

I’m in the same geographic area you are, and currently have some azurescens spawn that is going bananas in my incubator. I spluffed some cyans in another bag, and have yet to see anything, tho. It’s been a couple weeks, so thinking I might pull the bag from the incubator and see what cooler temps do for it. That barrel’s killer tho! I’m surprised given the wetness we have had that it hasn’t fruited yet.

So I created this tub of azure spawn, and it has shown to be really aggressive. It destroyed some trichoderma colonies and colonized the entire tub in  only a couple weeks. The colony started from a partly colonized jar of wheat berries, then transferred into some PC'd cut up cardboard I got from a box of wine. I then mixed some eucalyptus wood chips in with the box cardboard they seem to be doing fine.

Great thread. Funny you mention the extremely aggressive Trichoderma destroying power of the Azurescens mycelium...I inoculated some whole oats/alder/beech wood chips jars with colonised Azurescens wood chips that must have had had a little mould on them, as in half the jars I could see little green patches of mould early on after inoculation, I was worried my efforts were in vain. However once the mycelium got going it completely overrun and destroyed the moulds...in all my time growing mushrooms I've never seen anything like it, or witnessed mycelium so aggressive. I have found a local tree surgeon so have secured cheap, bulk quantities of wood chips...I started soaking some in a grain bin last weekend, and am planning on establishing and inoculating an outdoor bed in a shady area this weekend (I'm UK based, and have a friend who established his own Azurescens bed here, so I know it can be done). I've also started some Cyanescens on agar, and plan on replicating what I've done with the Azurescens with it. I also have some Azurescens LC I'm keen to experiment with, I have a feeling this could work well for inoculations (I did hear rumours of the LC being used in a super soaker water pistol to inoculate outdoor wood chip beds which sounds like quite an inspired idea). Nice one on the half barrel idea, and all the best with your grow, keen to see how things unfold.  :smile:

Very nice! Next to Azures and cyans, Pez Hawaiians have always been one of my favorites.

I totally agree, with the Hawaiian part anyway. I had mad flushes with that strain. I like what I see here, pulling up a chair as my friend @ramenshaman says. Peace.

I only started it a few months ago, I figured it was going to be a year before anything happened. 8 months to go!

Ah, yes, OD does take longer, doesn’t it. For some reason I thought you’d started earlier. Ma bad. Big ups regardless. Was psyched to see your project.
