Thanks for starting this thread. I'm joining in. I'm a first time grower, so I'm learning as I go, thanks to you guys. I'm also already totally in love with this new hobby.

I'm currently growing Jalisco, for fruit, using The Shadowbox design (automated faning 5min every 4 hours, airpump 16h/day, RH 95%+, temp around 71F/22C,).

First tray (on the right) was spawned 4 weeks ago, using horse/cow manure, coir, vermiculite and gypsum. Cased with vermiculite and coir. I had one whitish dot (pre-pin?) show up about 10 days ago and some mycelium breakthrough, but that went away when I  started misting directly. Since then nothing is happening, but I'm keeping it in the growbox and continuing to mist.

The second tray (on the left) was spawned 3 weeks ago, but instead of horse manure I used a combo of oats and crushed proso millet. What came out was a totally white cake, which was cased with vermiculite and coir 5 days ago. Mycelium came through within 24 hours. I haven't misted it yet in fear of aborting this one too. :weedpoke:

Howdy and welcome to the grow.

On thing you have noticed is that pins can and will abort (stop growing) if mister directly.

Mist the sides too and bottom of your fruiting chamber then place your tub back in and it will help.

I experienced the same, although others have had success directly misting pins. I dont mist after pins appear.

They do like a really heavy misting before pins appear. IME pins appear withing several days of drinking up the excess. I think it probably simulates a light rain, as opposed to morning dew. This is all conjecture, but all in all if you're misting they like it a bit wetter than cubes IME.

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes, misting pins was great lesson to learn. I'll make sure not to do it again.

As for misting sides and bottom of the fruit chamber is that necessary if I have perlite with water at the bottom and constant RH at 95%+?

That's for sharing that tip! I'll make sure it gets incorporated into my next growth.

Kinda disappointed

this is all your fruits from 5 jars that grew out for 6 months? What we're jar sizes? I'm sorry but this seem very wrong. Send me a message and I'll send you a spore print and we can talk substrate like one of my last posts showed I got 248 grams wet stones from 2 qrts and one pint jar. They were noc'ed from m.s.s on 11/6/19 and harvested 2-5-19 so I think we can get you some better spores

Do other people notice Mexicanas browning when you dry them? Instead of bruising blue like everything else, they just turn brown.

Yup. Me too. Tampanensis as well. Very little blueing at all, in fact. That's just IME though.

Tampanensis is such an interesting looking strain. It likes heat right? Will have to wait till spring or summer to get on that!

Mine fruit nicely at 72 to 74F. That whole bag is from the 1 bag in my Tampanensis thread. 8 flushes I think. I didnt get to post the last flush, they all fell over when I tried to move the sub, again.

Here's another example of browning instead of blueing. Here's a shot of my personal Jaliscos.

Flush 3 looks like it's going to be just like the first 2 on both trays, BTW.

Atl#7 also browns with no blueing for me, but my stash is super small, I haven't gone for many fruits lately and I ate most of what I had.
