Any of you good people using a bulk ultrasonic humidifier to operate a larger greenhouse type setup? Do you add anything to your water reservoir to prevent molds etc?

I know your know this, but no nutrition in the the water, NO molds. Distilled water prolongs the life of the ultrasonic devices.

Vaporized Sodium Hypochorlite or Hydrogen Peroxide are very effective sanitizers alone, including killing mycelium. I hear that the two together neutralize one another and create oxygen. Sometimes surfactants can help the ultrasonic do its job.

In very small diluted quantities of course.

A small piece of silver in the reservoir will stop any algae and bacteria from growing. It has been used for years in water filters.

Any particular type of silver? That is interesting to know.

They are called oligodynamic metals. If you can find an old, real silver coin, or even a piece of silverware that tarnishes, you are good to go. Copper will work also.

FWIW I found it is completely and utterly useless to add anything to the water because you need to rinse/clean out the reservoir and the fittings and ducts and clean the bouys and ultrasonic discs once every 7 days anyway. The water makes it one week without going bad with nothing added.

What sandman said. Every time the reservoir needs to be re-filled, the unit needs to be cleaned.
