I no longer understand the institution of marriage.  I tried it once and it didn't work out - I get a monthly reminder in the form of a $784 debit per month on my bank statement in case my mind wanders ...

Young people just don't understand that marriage in the eyes of God, Allah, etc., is fine and good, but in the eyes of the State it's a legally binding contract that favors whoever enters and exits the relationship with fewer fiscal prospects - not just women.  Lots of folks shout "prenup!" but that seems like a cop-out to me - what's the point?

50% of all marriages in our country (I think that's rounded up from 48% or whatever it is today) end in divorce ... those are wicked bad odds.  I get why it was a good idea back when women didn't work and birth control was a developing technology, but in the new millennium ... it just doesn't make sense.

My thoughts, anyway.  Marriage, much like suicide, is a permanent solution to a temporary emotion.

:)

Wow. Are you having a hard time right now ROT? I hope you are ok, and this was just a run of things you did find funny. I wish I had never married, and it is something I am very jaded on. It will never happen again and has been the death of a couple relationships. It is very offensive when you refuse to walk down that aisle again apparently.

Talk about slow learners with short memories; my dad was married seven times.   You would think I had been smart enough to not do it once.

Marriage?  it's a great institution...

No joke there.  You'd think I slapped Jesus every time I say "I don't wanna get married again."

My standard reply:  "I'm gonna pay off the last one before I even think about it."  That usually shuts 'em up ...

:)

I could not have said this better. Any relationship I have from the ending of my one and only marriage will be one of equal agreement between us. That is the only legitimate romatic relationship in my view now.

No fucking religion, and fucking state. Just Fucking.

Oh, and Solly.... Same.

You might disagree with him on other issues, however this Psych lecture hits the nail on the head ( IMHO) for a good argument FOR marriage.

As a child of divorce and step parent I think he's spot on.  Give it a listen he might not be as offensive as you might think :)

I believe that is what every person who gets married would like to have. Unfortunately,  life doesn't always work that way. I wish you all the luck in the world and hope you do find that.

I like to picture the scene in Tin Men, where upon learning that the Richard Dreyfus character has bedded his wife (Barbara Hershey) in an attempt at revenge, and calls the DeVito character to let him know.   DeVito, who has now been legally relieved of the wife he wanted desperately to be rid of, replies, "great, keep her," and  Dreyfus sees he's the one who has been had.   When my ex-wife finally moved away, I felt the same elation as DeVito, who then throws all of her shit out of the upstairs window onto the front lawn, and then  leans out the window, spreads his arms, and shouts out to the neighborhood, and to the world, "I'm free!"    That's how I felt.

Editing your post after someone reply's to it is really not cool. One of the reasons I hate that editing is even allowed on here. That is why you always see double posts out of me 99% of the time. I will edit to spellcheck but that is rare. I usually leave fuckups. (Unless Alder and Juthro are involved lol) It totally made my post irrelevant.
