I'm about to splash out on a flow hood... So those who have them, what size and sort to you have? Vertical, horisontal, all-round visibility, sides closed, etc.?

OK, got one, 32x64cm. Horizontal (unless/until I get off my arse). I am thinking one of the first things I might try is a grain transfer on  my Hoogshangenii, so I can then spawn to bulk in a few weeks.

I have enough A+ + B+ until they come on line.

It was $AU700, but came with everything and all I had to do was bolt on the fan.

It makes everything so much easier lol. I can pour plates (yes I was and am an agar user) and know they are in a contamination free atmosphere, transfer grain from jar to bag and know the air is free of contams, etc... I have only found one problem, when I was scraping a print the spores disappeared so I did the scraping behind a jar and it worked :-).

That's a little over 500 US dollars right?

I'm going to invest and soon.

Yesterday I did my very first clone in over 10 yrs.

I used the core of an 85g PF Classic to innoculate 2 quarts of rye, 2 agar plates, and 1 LC. I only used a SAB, so wish me luck.

Yes I'm assuming they would be about $500 in the US. (Are you in the US?)

I'm loving mine :-)

Yes I live in the US. Right outside of Chicago, Illinois.

I grew up around where the movie "Ferris Buelers Day Off" and "Uncle Buck" were filmed...they call it the North Shore, near lake Michigan.

Where'd you get yours from, if'n you don't mind sharing a link for those of us contemplating such a purchase?

The small one would be perfect for my modest needs, but the shipping would cost more than the unit.

If anyone knows where to buy something similar in the US, please tell me.

I thought that too... but now I realise why people say 12x24 inch is a 'sweet spot'. You can keep lars, syringe and needle within the flow. You can take the lid off a jar and transfer the grain to a bag while keeping everything within the flow as well. Good luck doing that with a 12x12,,

I think they're available on ebay in the US arent they?

Here's the cheapest one...

https://fungi.com/co...minar-flow-hood

I could have sworn it was 600 a few months ago.

If anyone can find something similar, but cheaper, please post.

Hi,

Glad to hear you like you LFH!  Thank you for the note on 12by12 <> 12by24" !

Do you have 'just' the ventilation & filter unit (and you use it on kitchen table or what ever is your working area)? OR do you have the 'box' to use as a working area (that air flows towards your body) .. like in movie lab?

Do you sit in front of table or stand by the table? have you tried both? which do you prefer? .. I am thinking about 'standing' setup as it gives move freedom to do my stuff ( and I am not going to write a novel in front of it so ..)

As for work area.. I am thinking 2ft dep and 3 ft (minimum) or 4tf width. .. any views on this? I do not think there would be actual need for 5ft wide work area and increasing would mean bigger area to clean and bigger fan needed. Agar usage assumed as it takes more space to work with (?)
