Do it all the time with cakes. It's easy and it also keeps cakes separated in case they contam.

With my Mexicanas on cakes I don't even remove the cake to dunk, just slowly trickle water on top until the bottom has filled with water, and cap. Put in the fridge, take out the next day, and drain thoroughly. Then case the top and fruit.

Exactly. Even if you used a pint, that should take a week at most to colonize, maybe faster if you used more spawn.

Nice job keeping the bag puffed out and standing up straight even with the 3 clothespins. The extra room is good for when they fruit.

Does anyone see any problems with doing it this way.

Oh, yah buddy, we got BIG problems here! No, I'm kidding lol, that's one of those things that is just so obvious that seems like it should be what is the norm.

I'll have to try PESH some day. I think I do have a PESA print somewhere getting old.

I have the opportunity to borrow a food dehydrator, but it’s only temperature is 160 degrees. Should I try it or will it ruin my shrooms?

Technically it shouldn't harm any of the magic. The melting point is well above 212 degrees Fahrenheit...over 300 I think? Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I know boiling/simmering for 3 or 4 hrs doesnt result in any noticable loss of potency when I made tea.

I probably lost more magic by them oxidizing than I will from the dehydrator I guess.

Yeah I've heard more often than not, that the magic does not degrade that easily from heat, but excessive heat would rprolly not be great. I think drying to slow can result in loss of goodness, but IDK.

I’ve been told heat can ruin them, and the exact opposite. To keep my conscious clear, I dry mine at 120f for as long as they need, with thicker fat ass shrooms I use a razor blade and make a slit from the bottom of the cap down the stem on either side. This seems to help speed things up, however I’m still at around 16-18hrs for a totally dry result. Peace

I do mine at 130 for 6 hours and they are brittle babies. They get stuck in my teeth. I wish there was a way to keep fresh longer.

Yes, splitting the big ones definitely speeds things up. I don't rip up all of them since I notice now much bluing I get when I do that but the big ones, yes, and don't seem to need a razor, just pull apart.

So if  we get chemical assay TLC working ('nuther thread) we can try out different means of drying and storage.

I have a bunch of little O2 scavenger packets and silica packets I got for storage. Can't say that I use them often but that might help. And I have dry nitrogen so I could flush with N2.

Problem with the O2 scavengers - they come about 20 in a sealed pack but are activated when you open them. I reseal in a ziplock and flush with N2.

You want freshies that keep for a long time, do like me. Grow invitro, then toss the whole thing in the fridge, substrate and all.

These bags are over a month and a half old. No signs of any rot or degradation.

I remember a long time ago Hippie3 suggested this with invitro jars, I just use bags.

I do the same. Save every silica pack I can find. They’re awesome.
