Yes, Sir.

I mean what does a steampunk innovator do with one he's salvaged from a neon sign?

Hook it to a coil from an old car and put a lead on each side of the toilet seat?

You can use it instead of a car's coil to make a high voltage generator like this.  The ignition coil out of a gas or oil furnace will also work.

Neon sign transformers tend to be short lived in this application though, so if you want to make one I would advise a cars ignition coil.

(proceed at your own risk, I've made one of these out of a car's coil and it produces enough juice to arc through half inch sheetrock to find a bare copper ground)

You can build one of these with a neon sign transformer...

I think we're going to have to call in some professional help to determine you guys are not a danger to yourselves or others.

I will also be checking my toilet seat for wires.

LOL, that is exactly what I made my contraption for, Steam.  I never got all the supplies together to finish the Tesla coil, but I had a lot of fun with the primary driver I made with the car coil :)

If you want to make a really big one that can make really big sparks, you can use a pole transformer like the ones that supply your house, for the primary side.  (you can actually pick these up on Ebay for 'tween 1 - 2 thousand $)

I prefer this one in Texas, where they are actually testing "Zenneck Surface Wave" transmission of power, which is what Tesla was actually trying to show:

It's in Milford Texas, here's a video:
