I can afford to fail, 'cause I have eight jars of the same spawn ready to go...and a big tub already doing something interesting, and some bottle-tek things, and some BRF. Lots of hobby fun.

So, the mushrooms that decided to pin on top are stumpy little bastards.

Wow. Those resemble the PE that's been circulating.

What ever happened to the PE that actually looked like dicks? Long, thick, wrinkled stems with a wide cap that doesn't open. Now they're always short chores. What's up with that?

The ones pinning on the bottom and sides are so eager to grow that they've lifted the whole cake in the air.

I'm pretty sure I did this to them by letting the surface get a little dry. The ones in my big tub look a bit more normal (though still a bit heavy on bottom).

So, I harvested the stumpy little bastards. Dwarfish as they were, they filled my dehydrator trays, and I still have a big pile of bottom and side pins to dry out.

Meanwhile, the same strain in my "big tub" pinned less abundantly, and the fruits look totally different:

I used a relatively sparse spawn-to-substrate ratio in that one, and the coir/verm didn't get fully colonized, so I guess moisture retention is better. It has a few side pins, too, but nothing like the ones on my "minitub".

Learning as I go.

I like the one that looks like a coma or an apostrophe!

Yeah, he has a cool hat. I'm looking forward to eating him.
