Thank you Crazy1,  that is very nice of you to say.  As far as that eagle goes, I like the way the pic turned out, but its bitter sweet cuz I think I could have done better with that opportunity.   I should quit bitching.  At least it wasn't one of those times I didn't have a memory card in the camera, lol.

@alder:   Here is another pic of a young adult eagle that shows the molting in a little more detail.  Though I think this eagle is younger then the others I showed, due to amount of brown still on his head.

You are correct sir, it is a young adult and is still molting into its adult colors. Its a very gradual change in the birds as they grow, so you see lots of variation.

Here is another example, this pic was taken from the Homer spit.

Made me remember this pic from October last year. I'm from Argentina, was on vacations in Mendoza province, specifically Auel canyon (https://goo.gl/maps/F4brhd8w6xsurDYt6).

This is a Condor, it followed our car like 2 hours, I took the photo with a Canon T2i, 70-200mm lens.

Beautiful shot, Elunicotomas!

I've never seen a condor in the wild.  Thanks for sharing :)

So we've had some pretty good lightning storms roll through here in last couple of days.  I believe at last count they had started 18 wildland fires here on the peninsula.

Anyhow, this is what a forest fire looks like @ midnight from my back porch.  The smoke was catching the fading light and it made what I thought was kind of a cool pic.

I have to laugh when these birds look at you full on. They just look grumpy as hell.

I've been starting to have some trouble with the autofocus on my 55-300mm DX lens.  Especially if i have the zoom extended all the way to 300, sometimes I can hear the AF motor running but its not adjusting anything.  Usually a little touch, or tweek on the barrel of the lens and it will catch and do what its 'sposta.  To my untrained ear, I think a gear inside the lens is starting to strip.

Advice?

A little Puppy Porn for your enjoyment... I am not an A+ photographer but I believe the cuteness helps to make that an afterthought! I may make this into two separate posts and share a few extra photos...

Here are a few of my favorite 3 year old and my favorite 3 month old!

Here are a few more of this cute but at time obnoxious 3 month old!

They start when he is 6.5 weeks old and progress until just the other day... He is a little stinker but he is SO damn cute!!

The answer is yes... He absolutely, 100%, rides the ATV with me... He used to ride inside of my shirt but now he is sitting on the seat in front of me... I have a couple fingers through his harness when he rides but he has done a good job of just sitting there and enjoying himself!

He is a good boy!

So the fire I shared a pic of back on the 7th is still growing.  As of this morning it has reached 18,700 acres, and the smoke is getting bad.  Its thick enough that it partially obscures the far side of the lake at times.

I love fire, and am a pyro. But wild fires like that scare the hell out of me. I hope you have an air purifier if the air gets too bad. I also hope you are far enough away that it doesn't get to you.

Thanks for the well wishes my friends.

They have closed the highway to the North of us, due to heavy smoke, so we are here for duration now, as that is the only road that connects the pennesala to the mainland.  (we could still evacuate by air, or sea if necessary)

No serious worries here though, the fire is still a long ways away.   Most of the smoke is being caused by crews back burning a fire line though the black spruce.  Black spruce is so resinous that it looks like someone is burning old tires when it burns.  It does make me glad I dont have asthma though.

The Sandhills brought their colt into our backyard to feed in the tall grass next to the lake this morning.  Lets hope they can keep the eagle from getting it this year.

@onediadem    I was out west and wasn't able to go weekend before last but we have a weekend festival here at the park every year called Pyro Fest... Wookie Foot was the headliner this year. The park is at an old quarry so we have a beach and a huge lake where springs have filled the quarry. Fire twirlers, spinners, breathers, and the like perform on the beach once the sun goes down.... Yes, we have a nice sandy beach at our lake and if you walk along the side, there is cliff jumping and an island...

It is a great venue during the summer months.. It is where the masquerade festival is for Halloween...

Camping is in the woods so you don't get blasted by the sun first thing in the morning... It is one of the coolest places I have ever gone for a festival or any show for that matter... The Gorge is cool, Red Rocks is cool, but the park is right up there with them. It isn't quite as virtually spectacular but its no sloutch and when all factors are considered, I think it is equally impressive.

A slightly better shot of the colt, I think.

I love spinning poi. Also steel wool cages are freaking awesome. Someday I will get someone to take pictures. Here is one that a friend took when he talked me into spinning for him that I like the effects on.

Those cranes are really beautiful. The colt looks healthy and I hope you get to see it until it matures and flies off on its own...
