Cool, I feel more educated now.  Thanks Pharmer :)

I just liked the way the sun was very directionaly (is that a word?) highlighting the clouds, if that makes sense.   It seemed unusual in that it appears to be lighting from a different perspective then what I'm used to.

Anyway, it made for a cool effect that I was lucky enough to capture.

@ Skye:  It was actually a warm day  for this time of year.  We were at about 41F or so when I took the pic (a couple of days ago).  Those clouds you see coming in were the front of a large system that has since dropped about 12" of snow so far.

@ Alder:  I had to look up Maxfield Parrish.  I like his stuff at a glance, thank you for the compliment,.  The picture does look a bit surreal, almost more like an illustration then a photo.

I think the "Parrish Flavor" is part of what I like so much on that photo Juthro. The intense and multilayered blue in many of his works is so much a part of his art, it is actually referred to as "Parrish Blue".

These are three of my favorites that I own,

If you like surrealism, check out Michael Parks, who I also collect.

Owww my aching back.....  No chance of seeing the sunset today.  It hasn't stopped snowing since that system moved in, and it's just above freezing so the snow is wet and heavy.  I would estimate we've got somewhere around 2 feet worth of wet snow in the last two days.

It took me a half an hour just to clear the deck and shovel a path to the side of the garage just so I could get out the snow blower and start the real work.    I know better then to put it off though, once the snow is partially melted if you let it refreeze it will turn into a block of ice.  Neither the snow blower, nor the snow shovel wants to move it then.

It looks like the last dry day is going to be kept cool with the trails in the sky.   These three pics were shot at, 7:11, 7:20, & 7:46.  I wish I could do better to show what it looks like to the eye.  I assume the smaller appearing planet is Jupiter.  Venus and the Moon need no introduction.

I'm going to spam this one because I don't want anyone to miss it.

==============

If you have a clear sky today, and you want the experience of seeing Venus in the daytime sky, look to about 35 or so degrees elevation in the southern sky and find the crescent moon (if you are in the northern hemisphere).  Venus is visible just above it.  If you are in the southern hemisphere, Venus will be below the moon (because, of course, you are standing upside down), and at a higher elevation in degrees.

In the three hours since this photo was taken, Venus has moved to right above the moon.

Sorry Juth, and anyone else not around 46 degrees north latitude, your elevation in regards to the moon and Venus will be different than mine.

I do hope some of you get to see Venus today and will make your reports.

I had a brief reprieve from the fog this morning as I was making my coffee, and could see a beautiful crescent of the moon with Venus just above and to the right.  I thought it would make a nice pic, but didn't have the correct lens on the camera, and decided to wait until I was done making coffee to mess with it.

Now I'm sitting here with a half a cup of coffee in my cup, and the proper lens on my camera, but the fog came back with a vengeance. Now I cant even see the trees on the far side of the lake.

Such is life.....

That is some serious snow you have going on there.

It becomes a pain in the ass once it gets deeper than the deck is tall.  Once you reach that point it its hard to shovel off the deck easily.

I just try to remember to take my blood pressure meds and a couple of advil before I go out to shovel, lol.

The snow finally got here last night.  One inch was all, and by the time I got the cameras out of the car, it was mostly melted in the direct sun.    But as I was getting the cameras back inside, I noticed that while nearly all the snow was gone, for some reason it was still on this baby spruce tree.  I liked the looks of it.
