I came up with a shot taken with the Nikon SMZ-10 and the Omax digital microscope camera. Guess what it is,

post-136520-0-23058800-1551287092.jpeg

It's a Eight photo layer stack of the thorax and abdomen of a brown marmorated stink bug.
He wasn't going anywhere when I found it so maybe a couple other micrographs are in order.

Those little bumps all over its body make it bad ass. Plus the way it's abdomen looks like a teddy bear. The Nikon SMZ-10 has a zoom feature, very awesome. I believe it was taken at 10.06x here is a cut and paste telling about this old but amazing scope,,,

The Nikon SMZ-10 is a Greenough-type stereo microscope. This means that the two separate optical paths and the angular offset enable the human brain to generate a three-dimensional image. The zoom body covers a magnification range of 6x , which, depending on the eyepiece (10x, 15x or 20x) and auxiliary lens (close-up lenses 0.53x and 2.0x) used, enables magnifications from 3.5x to 160x.

So here a rare, working survivor from WWII,  it is a Curtiss C-46F Commando, one of only 234 built.   She is a beautiful plane, and I love the sound of her twin, 14 cylinder radial engines (@ about 1600hp each), there is no mistaking her sound for a Piper Cub, or a Cessna, lol.

I would have liked a sharper pic, but she was just too damn far away.

EDIT: Her name is 'Salmon Ella', and I can kind of see her resemblance to a fish in this pic, with that two tone grey line the runs from nose to tail.....  (I admit it, I've been smoking pot....)

And while trying to catch a pic of the that C-46, I took a couple of Mt. Redout, across some slushy salt water of Cook Inlet.

There are winter (feeder) king salmon, and a few halibut (most migrate out to gulf of Alaska for winter to breed) out there to catch right now, and a guy can get a good rate with no reservations on a boat this time of year.   :)

This is actually one of my favorite times of year in Homer, as you don't have the crowds of tourists that you get during the summer.  Everything is more on Alaska time, no one gets in too big of a hurry. (like my bumper sticker says, 'Relax, Your not in the lower 48 anymore.'

They are very impressive birds for sure.  They are so plentiful here they are almost a nuisance.  Down near Homer's harbor, where I was taking these pics, I would say there is 10 to 20 of them close enough to see the entire time you're there.  Though a lot of them will be juveniles, and not have the white head, and tail yet.

Here is a group of about 6 fighting over something that washed ashore.

They are one of my favorite birds. Probably because of that John Belushi movie The continental divide.. I think is what it was called.
