Holy Cows. Been a busy week in the photo thread.

 

I've been wondering when Juthro would get out of the house and take some pics. For as much snow as you have on the porch it doesn't look like much in Homer at all.

 

Needles, did you build that stereoscope?

Yea, we definitely took the brunt of that big snow storm here.

No, it came from eBay. One of my favorite scopes, and the most used scope in my collection. I have used many steromicroscopes but this one is different. It has a 3D effect looking through the oculars that others don't. Highly recommended.....

Just ordered some calcoflour white stain. It's used for staining hyphae under floresence. Talked with a few companies that sell molecular probes online. One lady told me " we don't send things out to people's garages " lol

I was going through some plates to make a few grain masters this evening. I found this plate of shiitake that has some interesting beads of metabolic fluid collecting on its surface.

I actually am fairly proud of the way that pic turned out.  I tried the same filter on several other pics of  boats, and it just didn't work right.  But the fates seemed to align on this one.

 

And for the record I would give an awful lot to have a vessel like that on call for fishing around this area.  Around 30 - 38', with a couple of outboards in the 230hp range... :)  The fishing grounds are a long ways from the harbor, and these little boats are just the right combo of speed and size to get there 'tween the tides, and be big enough to handle most seas.   Though they are about the same price as my house, lol.

It was a pic that had been run through the photoshop, and it is a long ways from the RAW pic as it was taken.  Here is the original as I took it.  As you see, there is a lot of change between the two :)

 

Personally I like the modified version better, but that might be cuz I did the tinkering.  You can judge for yourself.

This shot was taken with my 35mm prime lens, to let you know how close the moose was to me (I was on my deck, but due to the depth of the snow the moose was about eye level with me.) 

 

He (she? its hard to tell this time of year) was cleaning up some alfalfa and straw that got spilled on the snow during the changing of rabbit bedding.

Maybe 15-20', Pharmer.  I cropped the edges down a little on the pic.  I've been nothing but happy with that lens.  But the moose saga continues....

 

That damn moose tried to break into my rabbit enclosure while I was drinking a hot cup of tea, and processing the picture.  It busted up a 33 gal rubbermaid garbage can that I store some dry bedding straw in before I could chase it off.  Even then it didn't go far before it got stuck in a snow drift.

 

I moved the rest of my storage containers into the garage, and the damn moose is still sitting over there looking at me from the snow drift, lol.  

 

When the snow gets deep like this they cant get around to get food, and start becoming a real problem.  Its also when they start hanging out on the roads, as they cant navigate in the deep snow.  

 

I would guess the snow to be a little over 5' where the moose is at in this pic.  (this pic was taken with the 55-300mm, I cant get through the deep snow either)

On one of our work ventures I watched this flock of geese for a couple of days. They were coming in to a pond for the night. I got there early and made a blind and sure enough they came in with their wings set....

You hit that nail on the head... I have a video of her tearing up a leather sofa we had a month or so ago... 5 am in the morning I woke up to Rip!!!! she looks at me and then goes back to destroying the couch... I will try to find a exif removed for video
