Back when I was in the navy, we used to say, "it's skid marks in the sky," which was a rough translation of, "that's the brakes of naval air."

Yes, from right where Washing State Route 4 westbound hits the Columbia.

Nice view Alder, I so miss those west coast ocean landscapes. I can almost smell the sea air mixed with a foggy morning . Just memories for me now....

Damn, Alder, if you need something to do you could try landscape painting. You got the stuff to work with right outside your door.

That is fog behind the tree.  The foggy looking stuff closer in is smoke from my wood stove.   The reddish trees up on the hillside are red alders, in catkins.   The leaf buds are on and those trees will suddenly be green, probably within few more days.  It happens really fast.

I don't know how many pictures of that big old American Chestnut tree I have posted here.   That's the seventh hole basket next to it on the 21 hole, PDGA sanctioned, "Raven's Run" disc golf course, a.k.a., "the black course."  It's also hole one on "Woodpecker," or the ten hole "red course."  I can actually still get a few birdies on that fun course.

See what I caught flying over my house today...

I had to sharpen it up a little with photoshop, but this is 'Dumbo', a 1942  C-46 Commando, currently operated by Everet Air Fuel.

You can see the artwork on the nose, and most likely you can  make out the small elephant with the two big pink ears for wings.  What is a little harder to make out with my pic is the black crow smoking a cigar, just in front of him.   It's right out of the original disney cartoon, but probably not PC in today's world.

If you look up the planes tail numbers on the net, you can see a better pic of the artwork on the nose.

I like that! Looks like WW2 vintage poster art.

did you use a layer for the texturing?

Thanks Pharmer :)     WWII propaganda art was the general feel I was aiming for.

Yes, the texture was added in a layer.

The first returning duck of the season.

Not a great picture, but it is a welcome sight at the end of a damn long winter.

I agree with you One.  I love watching the birds come back in the spring :)

Do you think he realizes yet that it is still a bit early in the season to find a good nesting spot?

Hey now, the early bird gets the worm! Or should I say, mate? Either way, the plethora of wildlife in your front yard is amazing! I am definitely envious aside from the frozen tundra part lol.

Be careful what you wish for.....

A word of caution when trolling these waters.  When you go looking for strange around where I live, you need to be prepared for how strange it may truly turn out to be, lol.
