LOL, it being light all the time is harder to deal with then the winter time when we only get a few hours of light (IMO).  I haven't been out of the state for about 12 years now, and it still messes with me every year.  Heavy blackout curtains are your friend, if you don't have someplace dark to get some good sleep once in a while, you will end up a sleep deprived zombie (IME)

I couldn't do it comfortably either. No way I've worked 12 on 12 off at night for 5 months straight. And even with the daylight being available was miserable. I agree with sir Arathu.
That female moose broadside looks like a guap of meat on just that shoulder good lord.

Last week I found a couple baby praying mantis on a chain-link fence when I was at the park with my kids.  It was hard to get a photo, this little guy was very active and didn't want to sit still.

Found this skink in a planter on my deck today.

And then I saw this, I think it may be an assassin bug.  It was very small and damn thing wouldn't stay put for the photo! This is the best photo out of twenty five shots.

Wowzer, just got back east and I miss all those amphibians and stinkers I don't see no more! Sorry for incoming photo dump

That looked like a Pan antillarum  it won't bruise blue most likely. If It did go to town! (I ain't good at IDing them and won't eat them). Rule of thumb I've heard and don't want to condone... If it's black spores it's safe.

East coast
Wedding venue, way outside my budget. Not my style either, Instagram galore. Had basically a small hotel on property. Up the hill they had yurts around a campfire and communal bathroom. Or nicer yurts with attached bathroom. Wood burner, king sized beds, overhead fan, propane heater, Dressers, etc.

Mostly city folk who had never been around a farm, hilarious! It was nice waking up and getting a fire roaring and catching the early risers with kids, construction jobs, etc. I cleaned up the  trashed bonfire/communal area (empties, food strewn all over the property, broken shit, treated wood in the pit...city slickers and drunks...2nd morning/stoked the fire after the wedding (sober weekend baby, few sips off cocktails)  and my buddy got the first morning. Some people never change!

sweet pair of Pyrenes, got to play with farm cats, kittens, goats and kids. They had alpaca and sheeps. No more dairy cows, but I smelled them. No actives to report back on

Some type of bolete, never found any before. Yellow polypore looking gills. No apparent bruising :(

That's it finding cheap property and building a yurt.

My friends on my deck.  I didn't use flash (would've probably gotten better pics with flash), these guys looked like they were suspicious since I was so close anyway.

Another kind of bird that I caught flying over our pond.  I found it noteworthy that this guy had no visible markings that I could see.  No numbers, or emblems.

It was a flight of three of them, but I only got out of the house in time to capture the last one with the camera.  So it's pretty safe to assume that they are military in nature, but I'm not sure what branch.

My friends on my deck.

I am assuming that although fascinating, you are using the word "friends" loosely? The paper wasps make fantastic nests, but their nasty temperament and sting is enough to make me give them a wide berth.......

I am glad to see they are getting their adult plumage filling in nicely. Putting on some size as well....

Well actually these are friends, as strange as that may sound. When we moved into this apartment almost three years ago, I quickly realized there were loads of wasps living in the damaged eaves around the roof, there was no way to do anything about it and the apartment won’t do anything. So I decided to live at peace with them. They buzz around and as long as we don’t threaten them, they leave us alone.

This hive is actually in between the glass sliding door and the screen door. They move around a bit each time we open and close the door, but they seem to not blame us for the inconvenience. Nobody has been stung yet by these neighbors. I got stung by an intruding wasp last year. That damn thing was mean looking, I didn’t provoke it at all and it just flew up and stung me anyway. Almost like it was a little bored and hadn’t stung anyone lately, you know, so why not this guy?

I like that lower pic in post 1709

Any editing done to it? The background gets out of the way of the cool feathers

The sandhills around here were fledged a couple weeks back and flying around with the parents already

Jr, had just been through a fairly major rainstorm, and was up near the deck.  The reason the grass turns darker on either side of him (her?) is becuse those are the pickets on my deck railing.   The focus being set on the sandhill in the background left the pickets as just dark lines that we can see through.

No major editing, just a little cropping, and some minor polish.  Here it is as I shot it, just reduced in size to share.  They aren't flying yet, but they are working there wings a lot, and I dont think it will be long until they get some air time.

Took a drive with my better half down Skilak Lake road today.   Skilak lake is a glacial fed lake (from Skilak glacier) that has the Kenai river flow through it.  It is just a pinch under 15 miles long, and just under 600' at its deepest point.  Lots of smaller snow melt filled lakes on the trip, plus we got to see the aftermath of the Swanlake fire that burned through the area in 2019, it burned about 170,000 acres.

Amazingly beautiful country.  Here are a couple of pic''s of some of the lakes, and fire damage.

A few more pics of the burn, and the fire weed that is starting to get into it's bloom.  The camera doesn't due it justice, the fields of purple are amazing this time of year.

More fun facts about Skilak lake.  With a surface elevation of just under 200', and a maximum depth of close to 600', a lot of the lake is actually below sea level.    The lake is part of the Kenai river system, with the Kenai flowing into, and being the only outfall for the lake.  At it's outfall it is still about 20 miles from the ocean as a crow flies, or about 50 miles as the river winds.

(Cant help myself, I've always been fascinated by geology)

This crazy bird sat in this position for about 5 min before it laid down, and took a nap....

Forgive me, as the lighting was horrible for this shot, but I've never seen a bird sit like this before, and thought it worthy of recording.  It doesn't look comfortable to me, lol.
