Edit: because I had to be that guy and start a new page. Bonus artsy pic.

Had to negotiate with the wife.  We settled on that she would go feed and water the rabbits, and I would take care of firewood for the day.  (BTW, the anemometer is frozen in place, there is still wind out there)

I was going to go outside and take a picture of some frozen fungus but decided its too cold for photography today

It has been a rough week out there, So cold I broke off an old frozen metal door handle this morning on a steel door. All you can do is start laughing at the extremeness of it all. Good times

Don't want to like any of this cold stuff (well out of them).

Wild people above those higher latitudes

edit: just realized I'm sitting inside in full winter gear for an hour after shoveling

I hear you, my cameras electronics start to glitch when it is exposed to weather below 0*F, and thats the story I'm sticking to :)

I dont doubt you brother.  I first noticed it happen when I was at the Aurora Ice Museum, and Bar, at Chena Hot springs (about 50 miles outside of Fairbanks).

After the camera was exposed to the cold for a substantial amount of time, I had problems getting the settings to change.   Later, after it warmed up again back in our room, it worked fine.

I should also admit that the cold will also affect my focus, but that is a completely separate issue from how the camera is working, lol :)

Yes, it's open year round, inside a huge building.  Chena Hot Springs is a nice place to visit.  They are far enough outside of Fairbanks that during the winter you can get amazing views of the Norther lights unimpeded by light pollution.  The hot springs aren't quite at boiling temp, but they use the hot water in a heat exchanger to heat another liquid that boils at a lower temp, and with that they drive a turbine electric generator.  It's not a small power plant, they provide all of the power for the entire resort + the locals for miles around.

They also have their own green houses that have LED grow lights in them, and they pump hot water from the hot springs through a heating system to hear them, and that allows them to grow food year round.  They also raise a large flock of  chicken, and ducks, and have a herd of reindeer that they've been growing out.  They have a stable of horses, and a shop full of ATV's that are both also for rent, with miles of trails around the resort to explore.  In the winter the trails are groomed for cross country skiing

They also have a large outdoor hot spring fed soaking pool.  It's quite an experience to be in it while it's snowing out.

It's not cheap place to stay (I am a tight wad at heart), but it's a hell of an experience, and worth doing IMO.  I've only been once, but I enjoyed it enough that I would be happy to do it again.

I would highly recommend a visit if you are ever in the area.

Edit: trying to fix drunken grammar mistakes, but doing so when drunk, lol.   So I probably didn't get it all right,  but I'm ok with that....   Drunk or sober, I still love you all.

Peace :)4ever

Feels bad especially in the venting spot :)

Juthro I guess if I'm going to Alaska I'm going big. That's amazing!

We have Glenwood Springs. Luckily I've timed it where I could go late at night as the herds thin and hit the reduced price to soak. Tightwad's unite.

That is some amazing scenery Rocky, not at all what I'm used to up here where I live.

Here is a shot of some of the weather I had to drive through to get back home after picking up a friend from Anchorage air port yesterday.   It was an icy, snowy mess.  The drive the normally takes a little over 3 hours one way, and it took me 7.5 hours this run.  I was afraid they were going to close the pass down, and make me go back to Anchorage, as it is the only road on or off the peninsula.

@ Sky, this was taken just about the Portage exit off of Seward highway 1.   IIRC that is part of your old stomping grounds.

The other pic is of where the Turnagain arm connects up with the main body of Cook Inlet.   That is all open salt water most of the year.

That is indeed one of the areas I am very familiar with Juthro, although I never saw it in those conditions and your pictures illustrate why I only worked there during August......
