Submerging the substrate in vegetable oil. Would that inhibit mycelium growth.

It would certainly help keep it from sticking to the tub...

Are you thinking because we use mineral oil on cultures to store them long term, why not subs?

Bad Idea. Vegetable oil goes rancid for a reason. There is an a available food source for certain microbes.

Seriously???

I dont get what is being asked for sure either. Slants and subs are very, very far apart and the veg oil would be a nightmare.

Nah, shallots, a lil' garlic, a splash of sesame oil and white wine with some whole roasted chipotle peppers...

I dont know what the OP meant, but oil does reach pretty high temps...

Maybe he was asking if submerging jars of grain, in oil would be enough to sterilize?

Like fractional sterilization except in hot oil?

Lol I'm just trying to flow with the question.

Or maybe he's thinking how some microbes don't do well in an oxygen deprived environment. If the mycelium could still thrive, then it might be an effective strategy.

Plus if they were edibles, they would be pre-oiled and you could just pick and fry! Hmm, oil spore syringes...
