Yeah millet is one of the most expensive, but considered really good. I haven't researched a tek for millet yet, I know people like it tho.

Found a good Tek for millet I will try out and report on which would save some time/effort in preparation. I do want to do the same for the corn though, maybe stop soaking, saves a step and would probably be fine for spawn/fruiting.

I have followed up on your advise, I saw today nothing was happening with the pins, so took them all off, redid the casing layer, luckily I had dumped plenty of vermiculite on there I could just shuffle around a bit to fill up the holes and sides, and it is nice and level again. Gave a good misting and will leave for a while.

Hey Rutger, have you ever heard of Willy Myco? He's got good tek vids, he has a good no-soak popcorn, & rye, wbs teks. No millet tek, but he's got a good vid for most aspects of growing, LC, agar etc.

I don't use his methods exactly, but  always tell people to check his vids out because there is a lot of knowledge, prolly anyone can learn something. I'm pretty impressed by him, check out his popcorn vid on vimeo-https://vimeo.com/269424789

Yes I have seen this video in fact. Found that it is similar to my method, don't exactly remember what he said, because he says so much. I see he uses gypsum, I have it but don't use it on popcorn.

Haha, yeah WM says an awful lot, you have to listen through a lot to get the info, but there is a lot in there. I like the Boston accent too.

Second flush and some blueish mycelium in tray #1 coming in. Tray #2 waiting to fruit.

Tray 1 had at the start 1.8 liters of colonized popcorn with a liter of vermiculite on top, quite the casing..

Tray 2 has 2.8 liters of colonized popcorn with 0.2 liters of vermiculite.

The last tray has been knotting and pinning the last few days, but I notice this goes a little slower than the previous one. I have the idea that is not because this one goes slower, but the other one might have fruited prematurely due to conditions..

On that first tray: I threw it out because of the blue stuff that had grown on the casing, turned more and more green and spread. Might have just been bruising mycelium from misting, but I thought it not worth the trouble case it was green mold, and since I had another tray incubating just to go with that one.

Will probably have a picture in a few, pins too small!

They grow! This is my second tray, it is taking its time, but I have time.

It might just be how the photo looks, but that casings looks just a tiny bit dry. Otherwise, great job.

If I'm wrong I apologize, but verm usually shows up a bit darker in pics when its hydrated. Even if it is a bit dry, if the sub underneath is hydrated well and you keep up the RH you'll be good. :)

I like to lower contrast on pictures so you can see detail better, also lighting from behind - so a lot of light reflection on that vermiculite! I think I made it on the wet side, so I don't think it is dry. Have been misting a few times a day and fanning a few times more, but closed the air exchange a bit on the propagator to keep humidity a bit higher.

However maybe I have been misting too lightly, not sure of course, but I also don't want to overdo it.

It's probably the way you messed with the contrast.

Carry on folks, nothing to see here!

Came across a topic online where someone showed a really contaminated casing, with white bubbly and green/blue nastiness. This is exactly what I saw on my first tray, so I'm glad I took it to the trash before it got worse.

This is what it looked like, minus the wetness (not my pic).

Might have found the origin of contamination yesterday, the topsoil in my plant pots was molding heavily! Same color.

Looks pretty damn good Rutger, you might be surprised how full the canopy will be when they open, there's quite a few pins in there.

I see a lot that will probably open up without veils like in my first tray, not sure about others..

We'll see. I hope I am not unlucky regarding the genetic selection that was in the few ml of spore solution I put in that LC. Or, otherwise I have not read many people using my brand of spores - not sure if they have good strains or not..

There's some work to be done to get some selected strains out of this, but I won't be doing that for a while. Will have to move first in the coming months, can't plan too far ahead in my projects because of that. I am thinking the Mazatapec I have started recently might be the last one before spring.

Pictures of the day. Seems like I have some 'normal ones' like I was hoping, looking alright I think!

Also a picture of how I have this set up, can run two of these. Tray in propagator in tub for now, just propagator and tub I the next run. Kind of stealthy, you can hardly see what's going on in there at first glance - and handy because you kind of can see what's going on in there and they get plenty of light. I move things into a lighter area during the day and can stack things up at night onto a table. Tubs might be too big to use on their own! 140 liters..
