Nomore’s Cake Tek-
<O:p
First off I have to give credit where it is due, Hippie3, Waylitjim, llama, and Mycolord and so many others contributed to this project and didn’t even know it. My tek is a result of their knowledge and conversations with all mycotopiates.
<O:p
Secondly, I say that this is not the begin all end all of cake teks; It works really well for me. If one person has success using this tek than I am happy. This tek is full of my opinions, facts in my mind, but opinions all the same, and I’m sure not every one will agree with me.

On a brighter note I'd like to encourage everyone to shop at organic stores. They have every thing we need, best quality, and your supporting a local biz. Also note they way I very textures, and make my mixes consistent. I think it's the key to success. I was inspired to do this by hippie, I highly recommend his mycrotopia products if you don't have the stuff to make your own. I used his recipe and modified it. I plan on getting some of his jars and doing a side by side grow log. I have been playing with his recipe for a while and I can't tell you how much better this is than standard pf tek recipe. Also I'd like to encourage others to experiment. Everything we learn makes this community stronger and makes our boomer's better, thus making our minds better. Thanks again Hippie, Zen, and all the other mods who make this platform possible for us.
On to the fun stuff!!

1) Recipe and Explanation-
Note- this recipe is a modified hippie recipe – 12 ½ pint wide mouth jars
2 cups BRF – I like to mix a small amount (approx 2 tsp) whole grain rice, then a even mixture of course, medium and Fine ground BRF. It makes a lighter airier mix, and seems to speed colonization
2 tablespoons of 50/50 red gold flax seed
2 tablespoons of organic corn meal
1 tablespoon of bee pollen
1 tablespoon of nutritional yeast
1 gallon of lake water with 2 tablespoons of kelp extract
3 ¾ cups med vermiculite
http://www.mycotopia.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=33018&d=1156886532
Put BRF into bottom of mixer bowl. It works as well with a hand mixer but requires a much larger Bowl or you’ll make a mess
http://www.mycotopia.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=33022&d=1156886532
Then put the flax seed, bee pollen and yeast into the coffee grinder. The objective here is to crack the flax seed and break up the clumps of bee pollen and yeast.
http://www.mycotopia.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=33023&d=1156886532
Add the corn meal and all the rest of the dry ingredients except the vermiculite to the mixing bowl and turn the mixer on low, smoke a joint or at least 2 bowls (Hippie timer)
The mixer will get the most consistent mix and it sure saves the shoulder any aching!!
http://www.mycotopia...31&d=1156886614
<O:p
After smoking add 2 cups of lake water/kelp and 4 cups vermiculite. Make sure you add the water first. Add them slowly, then have your after doob cig or another bowl if you’ve kicked you nicotine habit.
<O:p

2) Jar them bad boys up!! –
http://www.mycotopia...41&d=1156886987
Okay first thing to remember is to not pack them down at all!! You want the air pockets and the mix to be as light as possible. Fill them to the lip right below the threads,
http://www.mycotopia.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=33043&d=1156886987
them add your dry vermiculite barrier to the top of the Jar, if there is a mound on top wipe it off with a finger or when you screw down the lids it will compress your mix.

http://www.mycotopia.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=33046&d=1156886987
Put the tops on and cover with foil. I don’t use tape.
http://www.mycotopia.net/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=33048&d=1156886987
I use 2 rubber bands one on the lid and one under it. Now load into the PC, never put jars directly on the bottom of the PC as they will scorch or crack, both is bad. Never fill your PC past half way up your lower jars or they’ll drowned! PC for 90 min @ 15 psi. I know a lot of teks use 60 min but I think that 90 min more evenly distributes the moisture in the cake.
http://www.mycotopia...49&d=1156886987

I know some of you are wondering why I have not talked about spraying bleach and Lysol during prep or cake construction. There are 2 simple reasons for that. 1 it's entirely unnecessary, Why? everything is going into a PC which kills everything 2 bleach and Lysol can cause mutations and I keep them away from cakes as much as possible.

I often take the water from the PC to make my LC's. The minerals from my very hard water make great LC's and you know the water is sterile!

When PC'ing substrate jars, do you need to have to lids loosely screwed on? or tight?

Alright.

Also, would you suggest a simple washcloth to serve as a barrier between the jars and the bottom of the PC?

One quick question - I have seen flax seed as well as mustard seed used as a supplement but usually as whole seeds, the theory being that after a flush or two they release additonal nutrients (oils) that will extend the life of the spawn. I notice you grind the flax seed - any particular theory behind that?

Sometimes called "spawnmate."

There is provided a method of cultivating mushrooms and mushroom spawn, wherein a delayed-release nutrient supplement is utilized. The method is an improvement over prior methods which utilize nutrient supplements in the growing of mushrooms and mushroom spawn. The improvement comprises using as a nutrient supplement an intact seed having its sprouting capability irreversibly inhibited or destroyed, or mixtures thereof, and having inherent delayed-release properties.

(Emphasis mine)

Definitely just nit picking, this is a great write up.

They are only in the coffee grinder for about 3 seconds if that, The goal is to grack the seed not grind it into flower. I believe this to be a faster up take of nutes while not destroying the long term effects. Sure some are destroyed and used up (possibly) by the first flush but it saves the primortia the effort of leaching the nutes threw the shell of the seed and more energy into fruiting. Just my theory, but the logic of it makes sence to me.
