I wanted to make this post about the FCs I made from some trash. These were spawned on 2/28 and 2/29, each with a layer of sub as sort of  casing that got colonized. They were left to colonize on a shelf above the lights over the fruiting area, which on top of the shelf is 78-82F.

On 3/3 I broke up the casing layer on 3 of the coffee cans, as JKDeth suggested to me in the past, and I'd like to see if it helps enough to bother. Each coffee can got 1/2 pint of popcorn spawn(a few B+,  few burma isolations, untested for fruiting) mixed with either 1 1/2 OR 2 pints of a 50/50 verm coir mix to make a some 1:3 and  some 1:4 spawn/sub ratios, and the rest of the trays were 1:4.

The sub in the clone dome is 2 1/2" inches thick, the cookie tray is maybe 2 1/8" thick, the small round black dish is 3 1/4", and the coffee cans are 3 1/2"(without casing) and 4 "(with casing), all parameters being written down and marked on the cans, so I can figure which works best for the environment of the fruiting area.

For the coffee cans, and the round black dish, I'll put a 1 gallon plastic bag over them for FCs, with 1" x 4"(inch), rectangle holes cut in, with micropore tape covering them from the inside of the bag, so the tape does not stick the bag sides together or trap crud and debris. The clone-dome(for plant cuttings) and cookie dome are both about 4-5" high off the sub surface, short for fcs but cool looking, they might get way full of fruits(hopefully).

This morning I opened them up and some were not as colonized as I want them to be before I introduce them to fruiting conditions, so I only put 1 coffee can, and the cookie tray/dome into fruiting for now, i'll give some of the coffee cans a couple more days at least to get more colonized, and I want to leave at least one to colonize even longer and I'll check every day, waiting to see if itknots or pins by itself. That way I can decide what I think the best time to leave em in colonizing conditions is. Some people say to leave it until it is basically begging to fruit, others say as little as 7 days, it's been 10-11 days for these.

I like it! I have the tendency to buy stuff rather than recycle, but maybe that's because I don't have a lot of stuff laying around..

Got some pins in a couple of these  coffee cans and the cookie dome-IMG_20190319_195740.jpg IMG_20190319_195705.jpg

Notice the tan bumps? They turn dark and become caps-IMG_20190319_195833.jpg

Check my pinz-IMG_20190323_180106.jpg IMG_20190323_180000.jpg IMG_20190323_180038.jpg IMG_20190323_174804.jpg IMG_20190323_174722.jpg IMG_20190323_180304.jpg

This is my whole grow area-IMG_20190323_174549.jpg

I had 3 more of 6 qt dub-tub set ups on another shelf until today, I had gotten 3 nice flushes from them and I am more interested in starting new batches/strains, making room, and getting the tubs back in rotation, rather than trying for 4-5 flushes, so I crumbled those subs up in a 5 gal bucket. I plan to take em outside to my garden/compost pile/cake graveyard. I am not sure if I should mix the crumbled sub with the soil/compost, or just bury it, and should I cover it with tarp?-IMG_20190323_174512.jpg

Prtty small caps on these burmas, I think next time I use coffee cans/bags like this I will put a few 1/4" holes around the can right above the sub surface level for extra GE, as I think they are a little lacking in that-IMG_20190324_095753.jpg

Here's about half of the first burma flush from that one coffee can, I'll let the rest mature and open, and the rest of the cans/trays are taking their time to mature-IMG_20190324_132954.jpg

The coffee cans make it hard to pick them selectively, I had to twist/pull them, but the other trays like the clone dome and cookie tray dome will be easy to get a xacto blade in there to cut since the sub surface is level with the sides of the trays. So I will cut those and see if the stumps get pins forming or not, or if they get rotten, then I'll decide which method I prefer.

The bags over the coffee cans have 1" x 3" slits with micropore over them. I had left the zippers on the bags and they fit sort of tightly over the can with zipper so I think they needed some more FAE/GE, co2 was not escaping with the bags tight around the cans, so I cut the zippers off. Now the bags fit over more loosely, so I think the co2 will be able to escape out the bottom of the bags around the cans more easily, drawing air in through the micropore, that's my theory anyways haha, I am wrong often tho.

Oh I forgot, got a question. I plan to pick the last pins of that first can soon, then I will soak the sub for a couple hours, then I want to patch the sub and put a light casing layer on. They had a casing layer that got fully colonized, I broke it up with a fork and patched em once, they colonized it again.

Will it be a prob to put a light casing layer on after the dunk?

I picked a few of these burmas from the cookie dome that were starting to drop spores, most were not open with veils attatched, so I'll get them in a while. They grew small, I guess because the dome don't have much room for large fruits, like the fungus can tell it doesn't have much room above the sub surface somehow-IMG_20190325_132427.jpg IMG_20190325_132501.jpg

Here is the majority of the first flush/harvest from the cookie dome, there are lots of pins left that I'll let grow for a day, if they are all done growing I'll get em tomorrow-IMG_20190325_215452.jpg

Here's what's left-IMG_20190325_215845.jpg IMG_20190325_215903.jpg

There is a pin in this can that is an upside down cap with a stem butt growing up out of it, WTF, it's completely upside down, how is that possible? Some look like they are detached pins just laying on the sub, you can kind of see them in the pics-IMG_20190325_215950.jpg IMG_20190325_220017.jpg IMG_20190325_220103.jpg

Damnit, I had to work all night and was so exhausted when I got done I just went to sleep instead of harvesting. One of these coffee cans(B+) and the clone dome(burma) got over-ripe, less spore mess than I expected actually,. Here's the B+-IMG_20190328_105046.jpg IMG_20190328_105604.jpg

Here's the burma-IMG_20190328_105750.jpg IMG_20190328_105824.jpg IMG_20190328_111915.jpg

I patched the stump holes with sterile verm/coir but I am not soaking them because they don't feel too light yet, if they needed it it won't matter, I am going for 1-2 good flushes, then I'm taking the subs out to the garden so hopefully I get a nice outdoor patch. I want to flood my town with mycelium and spores haha.

The other 2 coffee cans flushed and again, I was working when they matured, I was exhausted when I got done so I went to sleep, and they were ugly as hell, the caps flipping up a little-IMG_20190329_042811.jpg IMG_20190329_042803.jpg

There is still one tray thing that hasn't flushed yet, has some pins but got dry on most of the sub before pins formed so there are bare spots, it'll get there yet.
