SmokeyTheGardener here. I'm new so I hope I'm posting in the proper place.
I'm about to start my first grow. I had access to fresh mushrooms before and have never taken dried ones. I have some questions. Dosing. When I was much younger I would eat 3 or 4 decent sized fresh picked mushrooms, maybe 4 or 5 inches across and only the caps. These were fully opened. Are the stems as potent as the caps? Is it true that they're more potent right before they open? I've read a lot about weight. When fresh or dried is it better to go by weight for a dose? How much dried would you take for a full throttle, shoot for the moon trip? How much for a micro-dose? Storage. Is it best to dry and store in freezer? Has anyone tried to take some colonized substrate and make a patch in a shady part of the yard? It's been about 25 years since my last trip. Hoping it will be as enlightening and beneficial now as it was then. I took my first few trips, almost fifty years ago,the summer after eighth grade. Quite an eye-opener. Never did micro-dosing but that seems like a good continuing practice although I will still want to occasionally shoot for the moon. Thanks to anyone that can help with these questions.
The rule of thumb is when cracker dry the mushrooms weigh one tenth of when fresh. Weighing fresh might be less accurate as you may not know how fresh and how much weight might already be lost to beginning to dry out.
Regarding dose, it's species dependant. Let's assume we're talking about some strain of Cubensis though; then 5 dry grams is generally accepted to be the full experience. Around 1 dry gram is threshold I think. Microdose is 0.1g to 0.4g depending on your sensitivity. I'm sure someone else will chime in to help answer some of your other questions.
And of course, welcome along! :)
