While re-invigorating the raised garden beds today, I noticed this totally weird growth in the bark around the beds. We have had an incredibly good year for rain, and this bark layer has been soaked for weeks at a time, but has been drying up for the last week. I am out in this area pretty much daily and just saw this for the first time. That tells me it grows (and dies) very fast. Just during the coarse of today, it has turned rusty brown and shrunk quite a bit.
Does anyone know what this stuff is? Fungus? Some other slime?
This is the biggest and most "clumpy" of the mystery stuff.
This one is farther along on the fast shrink and dehydrate....
