I'm wanting other opinions first...

Do you guys think a light scrapping with a fork would be a good thing or bad?

I have tweezers, I've already lifted a couple of the large pieces off and set them on the side to see if it starts to grow out.. I think it has a little bit.

I do suppose it would take longer to remove it if i used the tweezers but would it be safer than scraping it with a fork?

I don't think scraping will hurt. Starting to think something is fundamentally wrong here. Hard to judge without being there.

How long has this been now? Any off smell from it?

Go ahead and scrape. It may stimulate growth. You don't really have to be gentle. Scrape and mist it.

Okay, I scrape all of it? even the parts where its already started knotting?

Or just where it hasn't?

Am i scraping it off to the side or just like, Tilling it to open it up?

Sorry for all the questions.

I scraped  the majority of the casing layer to the side and left a good thin crumble along the top. It looks like maybe i didnt colonize the grain long enough? Does the grain always just stay like grain? There's some of the rye at the top, its surrounded in myc but i still wonder if it should be broken down by now.

Hopefully i did the process correctly.

Im going to use the bubble wrap. Should i leave it for a couple days again?

What should i do about misting and fanning now that one is growing?

I never gave up hope. just kept the same schedule but I'm still worried about the yellowish brown spots i see within the cake. What does that entail?

The pictures ardnt too good. Ill take better ones if yall need me to.

This looks bad to me. Is this mold or contamination? Its not near the pin, its across the cake

If that is contamination, and this ends up being the only mushroom i get, Should i go for a bleach dunk and try a second flush? it's not like i have another cake its gonna contaminate.

Figured... What should i do with it?

I know usually one would just toss a trich contaminated batch but i want to know if there is any chance of saving it with a bleach dunk.

Where does an idea like that come from? What would bleach do to the mold that it wouldn't do to the mycelium?

Other forums, I read that when people fruit if they suspect contamination theyll do a 1:100 bleach to water dunk for short amounts of time.

Sorry if I'm being gullible, I'm out of options by this point.

They report stopping the mold in its tracks with as little as 10-15 minutes of dunking

Some also speak of misting with the same solution but I'm skeptical about that as i have not seen enough people report success.

Here are some pics of a contaminated sub that I did "Nothing" to. No misting, fanning, No TLC, No Bleach, No H2O2, No exorcism. etc. The only thing I did was left it alone and cut the top of the bag off to harvest.  Notice the amount of green in the first pic.

I can not argue with your experience mikey! Im glad you showed me that because that does reassure me a bit. But if i have less to worry about, Why the "taps" ?

I hope more than just that one grows. I would like to have more than one mushroom to eat!

I've been watching you grow this sub since long before you consolidated it into this thread. I was surprised to see the single solder show up to the party actually. This sub is so old that I was believing that not even green mold would grow, but I didn't want to be a downer and rain on your parade. I praise you on your ability to get it as far as you did. The "Taps" is just me saying farewell to this one and to welcome new beginnings. I feel this old sub is ready to retire. Maybe you will prove me wrong, and I hope you do. To do so however, I think your best chances are to let nature take over and do what it does best.

Thank you for the advice mikey, I appreciate you letting me down easy! Is the browning a result from the age?

EDIT: Also, Did you only get that one flush from that bag? Considering I would just toss it after the first flush, i think it would be at least worth a try to go with trying to kill off the mold and getting another batch, cause regardless of if it gets one, I would have thrown it away anyways. What do you think?

Tabby it's been a long road and you have been a real trooper!
Kudos to you for not giving up!

I'd take that outside in a shady spot and bury it with the top exposed.

Let Mother Nature take it from here. You may get lucky and have enough pop up to have a dose for yourself.

Time to move on.

Try another strain next time.

When do you ship out?
