Man, seems like I've been hearing more and more about bunk syringes lately, I wonder why.

Its a first for me. Although i havent dealt with a great number of syringes.

But 10 out of 10 yellow and blue growth starting not too long after innoc. + another 9 jars were pc'd and innocd right along with the offending jars. My assymption. Stoned.
Meh.

Shit happens

I got a bunk one from a vendor a year ago, they replaced it with a good one quickly.

I just never mentioned growing, I said I looked at it with a microscope and there were no spores. They didn't ask any questions, just sent an email saying they shipped another one.

Any thoughts on how to proceed? :(

sorry, dammit. Techno-luddite here.

I would just birth & dunk. I had exactly the same happen on a pint cake, myc seemed to have stopped colonising & I was getting pins in the jar so I just birthed it and Presto! lotsa mushrooms.

Thanks. Good to know it's not neccessarily a loss :)
Read somewhere that it might be the substrate fermenting or something. I cracked the jar lid very loose to try and exchange the gas. Afterwards i couldnt smell any more but ill check it out tonight

Yeah mad420, jimboiya is right. You might have bacteria in the top part, that would cause a smell. The verm and any uncolonized area will rinse off, just birth it and rinse under the faucet and lightly brush off the verm. Rinse it well to get off as much of the bacteria as you can, it should be fine. When you knock the cake out of the jar take a sniff, if it smells like anything other than mushroom, like sour or sweet, or doughy like bread then there is bacteria, but you should smell fresh earthy mushroom also.

Just birthed the first one. Dunking in jar now.
A piece of mycelium came off so im doing an experiment in my grave yard. Took the stalled brf jars and dumped and crumbled in grave. Put the piece of myc in there. Cover with some more brf cake and topped with moist soil. See if it colonizes. Worth a shot anyway graveyards are fun.

Think i should dump my old 7 year old LC laced with trich out there too?.

Thanks all for the cake advice. Ive had cakes in the past come out of the dunk with that apple cider smell. They still fruited but i kept them in a seperate tub before. But this is my first acetone smell situation.

Perhaps it is bacteria stalling intial growth in these cakes...possibility. The one in question is pretty much 100 with nice white myc so I think (hoping too) itll be ok. Once it gets a chance to breathe and take a bath lol

Thx fam

I would think if it's almost 100% the myc should be strong enough to fruit.

Got 2 birthed thus far.
Checked my jars. One is heading to the graveyard. Myc colonized and three side. And across bottom. But this side i noticed is shrunken in. Light greenish hue to it and bad smell x.x56bc2743e0a2910eb39ea8a5404a350c.jpg23edb0e51ec268032cf10eddb26795cf.jpg2d2d80d199aa960410d3ee11f64683d1.jpg

The cakes will shrink away from the glass normally. I don't see green in the pic and it looks fine, but a bad smell is no good.

Compared to the other cake thats at the same level of colonization this uncolonized area is not healthy. Just got home and can see it sporulating in there eek. Yup its a bad one...got it isolated in a zip lock. Going to run water into the jar to dampen the contam spores before I open it outside and add to the graveyard.

Maybe genetic, they all have that butt-crack shape. Certyain contams, like vert will make em grow weird, I don't think it's that but I'm no expert. Could be environmental, like too much/not enough fae at some point in growth. Sometimes too much fae will make em grow small and seem to open early, or the viel breaks before the cap opens.
