The Red Boy is growing fast.

I cannot remember having such cool looking growth before.

All 9 jars look good.

I have several jars that look fully colonized,

but the rest of the jars are only 2/3 - 3/4 colonized.

Should I set the fully colonized jars out to fruit?

Can I wait for all the jars before fruiting?

I have not had such a growth difference before.

I’d say it depends how patient you are feeling.

Just hang out and wait for pins, the birth the ones that are ready.

As to the others, they'll catch up.

You got this Brother

I have 7 good looking cakes.

I set them up in chambers.

I will post pics soon.

I have been fanning the cakes once a day.

The room is comfy warm and dimly lighted.

Nearly direct light at sunset.

The cakes are looking good, shroomies should be popping out soon.

I have my doubts about the remaining 2 cakes that are still in jars.

I had this happen last time.

A bit of substrate was too dry to colonize or something.

Too dry because when I birthed the cake,

the uncolonized portion was dried out.

I cleaned off the excess and put it out to fruit.

I got a small flush, the moisture was probably low.

The cake did not survive,

it busted out with trich after the first dunk.

I fear the last too cakes might be worse off.

Bummer, 7 out of 10 so far.

Lucky I suppose, I did have to noc up twice.

Temps have been warm the past few days,

and look what happened to the Red Boy cakes.

Red Boy 16Jul19 (2).jpg  Red Boy 16Jul19 (1).jpg

This the most uniform flush I have personally seen.

So are there additives I can put in the substrate mixture when making up cakes?

The Burmas that I have are not very strong.

My first Red Boys were definitely stronger.

Very nice to see it turn out like this. Three cakes is not a bad turn out. They're able to last for awhile as long as they stay health. Excited for that pin-set to develop and for you to get a taste of what you made.

I hope they survive a few dunks.

Do you mind me asking where you got the inspiration to use such large lids for the verm on bottom? I just reused the lids from the jars they colonized in. It was my understanding that the more surface area visible of the perlite, the more effective it was at humidity control...

Looking great there Dipole!!!

There is really nothing all that important about what size the barrier, lid or whatever you choose to separate the cakes from the Perlite. Either way your verm should be moist and there's really no loss of humidity unless you cover the surface completely. Your humidity is more controlled by the amount of air circulation and the proper hydration of your Perlite. Misting will help to keep it where you want it to be.

Hope that helps

Peace

I use the lids to old sour cream containers.

I like the clear-ish ones the most because they look cleaner.

There is plenty of moisture in the chamber,

lots of condensate on the walls.

I thought that having a little extra verm. under the cakes might provide a little extra water for sprouting shrooms.

Of course, that is probably all in my head, but I do that...

Thank you for following my thread!

I started doing the verm bed for cakes. And used a syringe to add water directly to the verm. Its called bottom watering. The cakes will use some of it, though they might colonize the bed a bit.

I noticed growth into the bed casing, I kinda make up the verm a little on the wet side too.

Shrooms pop up out of the bottom so I hope that I might be providing additional water.

I got so excited with the grow this morning,

I started picking sporing shrooms before

I realized I had not taken any pics.

Lame...

The shrooms are small but each cake contributed to the pile.

I hope to finish picking today so I can get them dunking tonight.

I will try birthing the last 2 partially colonized cakes.

So far they still look alive and clean.

I picked the first crop.

Red Boy Pick1 20Jul2019 (3).jpg

I got the cakes dunking last night.

I just got them back in freshened chambers.

Red Boy Dunk1 20Jul2019 (1).jpg

This one has a very questionable "Cake" on one of the dishes.

Red Boy Dunk1 20Jul2019 (2).jpg

I tried to recover the 2 uncolonized cakes.

The dry part was very wet at the boundary to the mycelium.

It was this orange like stuff.

I washed them under water jet mode.

The loose stuff came off, but the orange stuff needed to be cut out.

I hope I got it all out.

I washed again.

I cased the "green shit" magnet last.

I will be watching it closely.
